Does The Game Creators only make Windows-compatible software, or can one expect anything multiplatform in the (perhaps distant) future?

That's what I thought, but best to ask. Excuse my ignorance, but why is that the case?

Only Windows; I don't think Lee has any experience with Linux/Mac/Other development, and it would be alot of extra work for such a small market.

Perhaps if Linux / MaxOSX ever got as popular as Windows.
Right now it's just not economically sound to support or atleast keep upto date other Operating Systems with retail products, unless that is where you main markets are.

Look at PureBASIC, Fred keeps the Windows version constantly updates, but Linux and AmigaOS fall behind; and he is soon to introduce a MacOSX version too, with 4.0 hopefully all versions will be equal but the problem is time.

Most other systems you can expect people to make Basics/Products for are mostly the Sourceforge or people who do it in thier freetime rather than professional products.

And, the DarkBASIC's are dependant on DirectX, a windows-only feature

The biggest problem is that there is a lot you would have to change to get code to work on another platform.

For example, differences between say MacOS and Windows:

- Different processor
- Different application format
- Different APIs (the commands which come with the OS)
- No DirectX support on MacOS

That would require a complete rewrite of the compiler and all the libraries for it to work.

DBPro is a very complicated setup, and therefore very difficult to emulate 100% correctly. I believe WINE can run 2D DBPro apps under Linux.

I'm on Linux, which is why I am not a DB programmer right now, instead of a storywriter.
