Ok, this is REALLY pissing me off. I live in a country... as does everyone else in this crazy world. This country happens to be God fearing, or at least it used to be. But now we've been over-run by immigrants. That isn't so bad, in fact it's good in some ways, but THEY are entering OUR country. They are guests in a way. They should abide our rules! And for the most part they do. Everythings great. Laws and moral standards, etc are generally respected, but when religion comes up, theres a big uproar. Heres what I mean:

In certain places of work, you can't mention christmas, or Jesus or what ever religion, BUT Ramadan is allowed, people can go to say prayers at a certain time of day in a special room, but the rest of us can't say christmas?
At our city hall, we have to call the beautifully decorated tree, the "Holiday Tree" instead of "Christmas Tree"! A CHRISTMAS TREE IS A CHRISTMAS TREE!!! NOT A HOLIDAY TREE! THE HOLIDAY IS CHRISTMAS!!! AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, IGNORE IT! We make allowances for prayers, special parts of other religions, why can't we celebrate christmas without having to watch our step, so as not to upset others? This is getting rediculous.

Sorry for shouting, or if I offended everyone, but this has gotten out of hand. I am not targeting any specific religion or way of life, I'm just saying: Christmas is Christmas. If everyone else can fast for ramadan, pray daily etc, why can't we say "Christmas Tree"?

a lil on the pathetic side but still a christmas tree hehee...

i swear political correctness though recently has gone freakin insane, it does sound rascist to say - but US and Canada was founded by Christians, quite frankly its sick that you can't even acknowlage your own holidays now

Religion... The cure and the ruin of men's souls. It's thanks to religions that men kills other men. It's thanks to religion that men waste their time and live praying instead of enjoyinning their best things in life, which btw is short.
The church always had a big influince in all countries and most of it, ended up as rebelions, local fights, civil wars or big wars...
Is this related with God? The meaning of religion and god would be just make each other love and respect each other. Even "closer" religions has fights sometimes as catolisim and protetantism ( hope I wrote this right, lol ). Really, for me, religion, ALL of them are be biggest bullshite ever.
Rasp, go ahead and say Xmas, screen Xmas if u like. If someone complain explane exacly as u feel... That's how it's supposed to be U have all the right of it and I really agree with you.
Just do not call an immigrant a guest. They are not guests, a tourist is, and this is not CANADIAN country either. All countries had native/indigens peoples living b4 the white men came and took it from them... That makes all immigrants in a way, and a immingrant is a citizen, independent of their language or beliefs.

I hope, noone will get me mad here...

I agree with both Raps and Rogue. If you want to see what I said about racism Raps, check back on the "sick sick sick" board it turned in2 a semi decent conversation about such things

I think people are intitled to believe what they believe, but once person's beliefs should not be forced down other people's throats as it were. 'Holiday Tree' is just stupid, because every1 will know that its simply a Christmas tree called that.

My Son has a video called "A Berry Bear Christmas" which is the holiday special of "Bear in the Big Blue house" and whilst it has "christmas" in the title, also covers Quanza and Chanuka etc. Weird cross polination of ideas...

Christmas comes from Jesus Christ, maybe that's the stone in the shoe?

Here in Sweden everybody is free to belive what you want as long as you respect each other and things like children rights etc. Many/most swedes don't belive in god anymore. Most older ppl do and some younger. I think that in a few generations it will disapear exept for a few areas. Our country is based on christian belives but now it's more a moral thing. Don't steal or don't kill are things you want even when you don't belive =)

I 100% agree with raps, I think you should be able to say Christmas, same as any other holiday, and especially Christmas, because it's the most important holiday to some people (like me)

Just another thing. Many immigrants dont celebrate Christmas and object to mentioning it or anything to do with it, however I have never heard anybody object to the holidays that generaly come with it. Tell me if I'm being paranoid, or have other people noticed this aswell?

Oh, btw, the Christmas tree has nothing to do with Religion, its a German tradition, to do with the lights etc. to scare away the evil spirits at the dark days of christmas.

I love Christmas Trees!!
I was helping to decorate my aunts tree this year and almost ended up tangling my wee cousin up in soo much tinsle that she almost became part of the tree. lol.

Anyways
It's good that people have religion, because everyone needs something to believe in!
But it causes so many wars and just look at the state of my country - Northern Ireland.

yup... protestant vs catholic, and really the differences are kinda minimal
:: runs for the hill from the irish ::

technically i'm a CoE, that isn't actually taken too kindaly in the states - which is why normally i'll sidestep the question when someone asks.
thing is thou ... most people who are believers now really arn't god fearing chruch goers and its like DG has noted, its now really a sense of moral standpoint on things.

could sit for hours debating if god is there, which religions god(s) are real or not, what way you should interpret the bible, if jesus is an important factor or not blah blah ... at the end of the day people will believe what they choose, why piss in thier pool about it?

CoE ?????

I do have a strong faith. Most people ask for proof before believing, well I got my proof a few years ago. Maybe thats why its now so easy for me to stand up and say I'm Catholic.
Though living in this country has taught me to respect people for who they are and not what religion they are.

Knowing me I'll probably marry someone of a different religion anyway!

I could give a million reasons why catholisism is wrong. Then someone else will give me a million reasons why christianity is wrong, then someone will tell him why muslim or whatever is wrong.
At the end of the day, whether the 3 million-odd reasons are actually true or not matters little, the person is either gonna stick with their religion or be REALLY confused. So leave em alone.
Therefore I agree with Raven

hehee ... well i could mention what is wrong with the sentance our loveable kitty said - Buht i don't wanna cause an incident where george mauls me

Church of England (CoE (^_^)), i mean really now in the UK i'm registered as a Jedi, hehee ... think that's cool i mean most think i was like some freakin' nerd for doing it - but at the end of the day its just the general rules i live by rather than being some person who has supernatural powers.

I could sit here for ages and talk about what it actually involved but ya'll probably think i'm some nut.

Personally I do have alot of anger and questions about what has been allowed to happen within my lifetime, how could things be lost so badly ... so much pain in the world and people strike out at nothing.
you don't need proof, you can't loose faith, who you believe in is because deep down - your intuition tells you that.

No one can understand the experiences that make you who you are, and god whoever you believe in guides you through your journey at the points when you need god the most ... god is there, and just because you think he has let the wrong things to happen. At the end of the day when you relocate extinct animals, you can't interfere greatly with them or you'll tarnish they're development and interaction.
So you'll be nudged in the right direction, forced to face things you've run from all your life.
Enough to be believed in, not enough to warrent the existance of... there are alot of answers that require questions suchas the dinosaurs.

oki i'm going WAAAY off subject here, so i'll just stop
but even if no one else ... I believe in Jovah as one of the god, and he is the god I trust in.
Some of my close friends already understand all to well my faith and why it can't be broken.

(^_^) lol betcha didn't think i would be a deeply religious guy eh

CoE = Church of England. Variantion of Protestant. Every1 born in England is registered CoE unless their family states otherwise.

I think people should believe what they want too.

Raven don't worry. Some of my family are Wiccan so on some records I am listed as a Witch (actually I don't diss it, just don't really know much about it) - I don't tell many people that one, especially when visiting the Southern States!

lol ... my dad's side is pagan, my mom's is catholic
so ya know if anyone can figure out how the heck i became CoE, please answers on the back of a plain postcard to POBOX

ya know i'm really not bothered what religion i call myself under, cause at the end of the day as long as I don't have to actively practise it like Ned Flanders or something then i'm cool with it.
If i remember the main difference i'm pretty sure of are the catholics are "suppose" to be more restrained about the sexual side of things.

sure the holiday event has been bastardised into christian thinking, but the essence is to celebrate it the best way you see fit if its part of your culture.

The act of giving a gift is sometimes so daunting for some people. try not to make it a huge mountain of stress.

Celebrate the day with friends and family and try not to be tempted by the commercial version and have some fun with your family.

'Christmas' (obviously it wasn't called that) Yuletide celebrations at the end of December with a decorated tree were around way before Christianity. The Pagans started it I believe. Can't b bothered to look it up tho lol

Historically although it is provable that a man named Jesus was born in Bethlehem it wasn't on December 25th. People originally just used the date because people already celebrated then anyway, and the new ceremonies could convieniently replace the pagan ones, therefore replacing the old beliefs not running side by side with them.

I think... Man I learnt that at school, like 6 years ago. Startin 2 feel old now... lol

We had this debate on a TV show last week(e-mail,votes and phone) and 89% of the people said priests should have the right to be married and have a sexual life.I remember seeing something like that in the bible(don't really read it but I used to) and correct me if I'm wrong, but there was a time where they actually could.

*Sings*

"There are Jews in this world, there are Budhists.
There are Hindus and Mormons and then,
There are people who worship Mohammed,
But I've never been one of them.
I'm a Roman Catholic,
and I have been since before I was born,
And the 1 thing they say about Catholics is -
They'll take you as soon as you're warm -
You don't have to be a six footer,
You don't have to have a great brain,
You don't have to have any clothes on,
You're a Catholic the momenst thou came.
'Cause every sperm is sacred, every sperm is great,
If a sperm gets wasted, God gets quite irate.
But Let the Heathens spill their sperm on dusty ground,
God will make them pay for each sperm that can't be found"

lol - Sorry couldn't resist what with the Catholic posts and Actarus' Python tagline. No offense intended of course

I'm finding out the hard way that most guys are cheaters!
Nearly every guy I've met at uni has a girl at home that hes gonna marry, and while hes at uni hes gonna have some fun as long as she doesn't find out.

!!!!! Is it any wonder the divorce rate is soo damn high!
Why can't men be faithful!!!!

I don't wanna end up alone, but I look around me and see sooo many of my friends who are pretty, smart, single girls yet all looking for Mr Right and I realise if they've been trying so hard and they still haven't found someone, what hope do I have!

Sorry to moan, I was just hit on by one of those 2timers I mentioned before. My mate when out with him for a few weeks til she met the "from home" girlfriend and him in belfast, he completly blanked her. I spent the next few weeks trying to get her to stop crying!!!

Then he has the nerve to ask me if I'd like to go to the cinema with him for a date on Friday night!!! oooooh!
If I was brave enough I would love to have slapped him. I just said I was washing my hair, so I think he got the message!

sorry, I just was angry, and now I'm got that outta my system:

Did you hear about Adam in the Garden of Eden?

He was feelin lonely and he asked God to create him a partner,
God said he would create the perfect woman for Adam, she'd cook, clean, never moan or argue etc...
Adam said "Great what will it cost me?"
God Said "An arm and a leg!"
So Adam said "What can I get for a rib"
.......................................

(Sorry it's just a sad joke on the bible story that Eve was created from a rib taken from Adam)

I've seen a lot of cases where people believe in God when it suits them. i.e. They ignore Him all their lives and then something bad happens and they either 1. Ask Him for help or 2. Blame it on him. Partly due to this reason (I could name a Trillion other ones, but I dont think this forum has enough space for that ), I decide to stay a non-believer (i.e. Atheist) and if He exists, at least I wont have ignored Him or prayed to Him whenever it suited me, which, if someone did that to me, would piss me off.
Apart from that, I have the utmost respect for other people's beliefs.

American girls are kinda... erm... for lack of a better work... erm... slutty :?
if there are any on here no doubt i've probably become number 1 on thier hit list, but i mean i can't believe how well, easi they are!
Come from the UK where the only easi girls are those who shouldn't be in most places (unless your black, still not sure why!) - but here, i swear its like shooting fish in a barrel, with a wide load twin barrel 12gauge

I'm sorry you've had a a bad time of it Rose.

Us guys aren't all bad. I never cheat on my wife. She is a rare find in the sense that shes says she understands men aren't perfect and doesn't mind if I sleep with other people, so long as I always come back to her and the kids. Whilst most guys would agree that sounds like a pretty good deal I've never actually taken her up on it - I love her and don't feel a need to sleep with anyone else

That said I am a natural born flirt and its great that she doesn't get the hump if I just joke around innocently with other girls. I've had some madly paranoid girlfriends who never let me out the house, or even look at a girl on TV! Thats just not realistic

As for American girls Vegata it might be because you are English. I find whenever I travel to the States I appewar irresistable to all girls because of my accent Plus it depends where. I have been to some southern areas where girls are shocked by the prospect of Kissing on the lips b4 marriage! lol

i had that once too... i'd be like watching something, and she'd like get the hump about it - like when i used to watch Angel, not something you'd really expect someone to be jealous of

the ironic insanity is she cheated on me on holiday - but then you know what they say, you only suspect what you fear of yourself

ya might be right about the accent, but a few people hear have heard mine ... well i don't have like a typical english accent.
ya know something freaky is that all the guys on my dads side of the family - we all sound almost identical, on the phone its very very hard to tell us apart aparently
what a genetic trait eh - hehee
