Got Driv3r today, it's prob not out in shops downtown till the 25th, go to www.play.com to get it now!!!

Anyway, this game is totally crap, I'd rather be playing pong all day!!!

Plus, well, I'm crap at car games anyway, I couldnt get past the first mission, prob coz I suck, I dunno, well this is what I think of the game, totally boring, well, it's worth buying n playing but I play GTA:VC more than I do this game.

Anyway off to do some revision, and to start creating a game which will rock better than driv3r ever has!!!

I have a game from a couple years back called "Driver: You Are The Wheelman" and I must say it was one of the coolest driving games I have played (up there with the NFS 3 series). Yeah the missions were a little hard, sometimes near impossible but that game had the best physics I have ever seen in a driving game. Is the game you are talking about the same as I am talking about, or some new version, or something different?

I think he's talking about a spin-off of the PS1 Driver game.

I got the original when it was released for the PC and attempted to play it a couple of times - a complete waste of my money

yes the one I had for pc was a ps1 spinoff, and it was awesome - I nearly finished it. How could people not like that game? Then again at the time my pc specs where completely over the top cpu/mem/video + I had the ms sidewinder FF Wheel and pedals, which made the game loads of fun to play.

I don't like the look of Driv3r, compared to the GTA series - the new GTA game will blow it outta the water regardless.

It's a shame because I loved the PS1 originals, they really pushed the PS1 to it's limits and Driver2's 2 player mode was excellent fun.

Driver was great on the PS1! So was Driver2! The missions were not hard, I completed both games! GTA 1 was also good, but a different sort of game. TOCA 2 was great! My next driving game will be for the Gamecube....Dunno what is good though.

The new TOCA game for the X-Box rocks, I dislike conventional racing games, but the physics and car response on TOCA is the best I've played. Now I'd like to see something like Destruction Derby:Raw for X-Box, I love smashing cars to bits at high speed.

Now, that would be good.

I have heard that Driver 3 is pretty awful, so I doubt I'll get it.
Anyone know what True Crimes is like on the PC - wasn't that impressed with the XBOX version.

The Xbox true crime was indeed terrible. As for the PC, well apart from flashier graphics I cant see any other modifications being made to it. Driver 1 and 2 were both class on PS1, they truly redefined the driving genre and made driving cars cool - you could recreate your favourite 70's cop car chases and everything.

Quote: "Plus, well, I'm crap at car games anyway, I couldnt get past the first mission, prob coz I suck"

And if Im not mistaken, thats you calling the game rubbish because you are rubish at playing it. thats hardly grounds to tell everyone that this game is rubbish. Driver2 was fantastic, played it for ages and the missions were just right - not too difficult, yet you didnt get stuck for weeks

GTA:VC is, in my opinion, perfectly pitched. All the missions are possible, some take more attempts than others. Some need brains as well as braun, and some can be repeated to improve your previous performance. It's relatively non-linear, you can pick 'n' choose your missions, and there's many different objectives. How could it be any better?

The only let down for me with VC was the same with GTA3, and that's the damn boring NPC's. I mean it had so much of everything else - a bit of bullying of the NPC's is expected - but it was very limited in what you could do with other characters, I'm no sicko - I'd just like to think I pissed that guy off properly. If there's a good place for GTA to go now, it's with more RPG interaction elements or hopefully online multiplayer (on X-Box Live, that would be a huge success), we already have all the vehicular carnage we need.

Diver: You Are The Wheelman (1) was pretty fun, I finished it, and some levels were pretty hard... But i did it...

Oooooo, and I sure cant wait until it dawns on them that GTA needs Online Compatability..... That would sell faster then a rare poke'mon card to a poke'mon nerd.

Just dropping my two cents on the original driver games - fan frikkin tastic. Nuff said. I couldn't get enough of the movie editor. I made some sweet car chase movies, and the more you play it, the better you get.

One of the last levels on driver 2 (I think) had you caning it round a mountain side/cliff after some guy, powersliding through fence posts, missing on coming cars, dodging boulders, almost falling off the cliff, never truly in control but just about staying alive. That was a masterpiece of game engine & level/mission design, especially seeing as you could direct your own movie replay of it afterwards, and save it for everyone to see.

Frikken genius chamone!

Comparing GTA3 with Driv3r... is like comparing Final Fantasy with Baulder's Gate.
Two quite different and distinct games.

I never finished either the first two; but I had fun playing them cause the car physics we 'playable'. I don't mean that in a bad why, but they didn't have realistic physics, they had FUN physics; Car's handling was so movie like it was cool.

Might get 3, but I dunno; more interesting in just pure GameCube games atm

Hey Fallout - that mountain side mission was the last level I ever played because I got stuck on it - I must have attempted it over a hundred times but just couldnt get it right. Id breezed through most of the game aswell. Anyway, the Driver games cant be faulted, they were pure class and proved that realistic car physics add loads to the replay value. Bo Selecta!

Yeah man, took me a good 50 (probably no exaggeration) attempts to do it. Once you complete it, you unlock that part as a looping race circuit, so in two player mode you can cane it around there after each other. Anyway, yes, it was damn hard, but because it's so good, I kept trying until I got it done. It also helped we had the PS1 set up downstairs at uni, so we played driver a lot, but as the best driver, I got maximum respect. hehehe.

As for eehhee bad mother f**ker bo selecta chamone, you should put your craig david avatar back on. Can I get a rewind?

I managed the cliff level in Driver 2. Well of course because I completed the game. The next level I think was the helicopter chase. That was fun too.

Don't mention Bo-selecta to me. I've complained to Ofcom about it.

Complained about Big Brother fight
Bo Selecta
Distracted
South Park
and Goodfellas.

Channel 4 are not getting away with this any more.

What? - producing 4 of my favourite shows?

I agree that Big-Bro sucks and is completely innapropriate for intelligent peoples viewing, but Distraction is just plain fun (the contestants know what to expect, just like weakest linkers know to expect a scowel and a sarcastic remark). South Park loves nothing more than pushing buttons, and reacting to it is a very dangerous area - because a lot of people agree with it's stance on disability among other things. Goodfellas, the movie is a classic and just up C4's street - dunno why you were offended at that - I can only assume it was the timing.

Dont know what distracted is, or is that the game show when people get hurt/electrocuted/paintballed/humiliated?

What's the problem with them?

Any what's wrong with Goodfellas?! That's an amazing movie.

I complained about Goodfellas because of the cult following of Channel 4 at that time would be a similar type of person who watches Bo Selecta at a similar time. If you are unoffended by Bo Selecta and other similar programs like Distracted then you may be more prone (Not Van-B) to sympathising with the Goodfellas conduct in earning money. A small percent of hard up people with lowered morals may start criminal activities due to the programming of their personalities by Channel 4.

I understand where your comming from, but I'm more concearned about so-called regular TV to be honest. For example, this programme last week about premature births - frankly the death of children is something I can't stomach, and in reality TV it has absolutely no place. Sorry if I'm ranting but it really annoyed me that at 7pm the BBC would show babies being given birth to, with all that goes with a normal birth, plus the extra with premature births, then they show a young couple dealing with the lengthy death of their baby. And that's just 1 programme, there's been countless other programmes like that - all shown before 9pm.

What about the 'You've been framed' style shows too? - 'Let's make a show where we laugh at toddlers falling on their heads', frankly I'll sit my son in front of south park before that crud anyday.

I hate that stuff, so much that I know exactly when to FFWD Trainspotting, Frankenstein, 28 Days etc to avoid the horrible child death bits.

Personally I'm glad there's these 'escapism' shows - they might show a guy being electrocuted for money - but there's worse things on a helluva lot earlier than that's shown.

Rant over.... Driver3 sucks.

It's going that way with Project Gotham Racing, I mean a lot of old clans are getting into XBox Live now, so I can imagine GTA online being freakin huge. Should be great fun though - GTA's already the coolest thing to ever come from Scotland (I came second).

Nah, I could'nt forget them guys - they were made by DMA, who are actually Rockstar North (pretty much) - who are behind the GTA series. Lemmings rocked, even my mom was addicted to it - she still is, still plays the Windows version!. One day I'll send them a treatment (like a pitch, but with real details), just so I can say I tried .

I heard it was crap today... this was from the same guy who then went and badmouthed off about Goldeneye saying it was too 'slow', proceeded to insult Starfox Adventures saying it was graphically poor following him getting told he had 8 members from the developer of those game sitting within hearing distance and stareing at him in a way that could've killed (if looks could kill lol)

Spyro on the GC is a piss poor game; totally crap, but i still like playing it.

I am one of the rare few who thinks goldeneye is crap, but that's mainly because I dont think the controlling mechanism of consoles is suitable for any FPS games. Goldeneye was only a challenge because of the fact its hard to play on a joypad. If you had a mouse and keyboard, goldeneye would be a piss take.

I seriously reckon FPS games on consoles are insane. They never play well without some autoaim feature or seriously slowed down game play, because you cant aim a gun quickly with a fricken analogue joystick!

Nope - I disagree, because you play on a control pad completely differently than you do on a keyboard, and it takes more practice than most people put in - but console owners have an advantage in the analogue strafe.

Put this way, with a mouse you can literally point at your target and shoot, dodging bullets with the movement keys (which remember are digital on a PC). But with a control pad you have a less responsive aiming system, but a really responsive movement system. Watch anyone who is good at console FPS games, and you'll see how the make tiny adjustments to the movement to aim - A lot of the time I don't even aim left and right that much, just up and down really and let the analogue strafe handle most of the aiming.

I will say the N64 pad sucked for FPS, but the old style X-box pad, the huge on is great for FPS.

I agree with you there Van B. With the Xbox pad I can play better than then a keyboard and mouse on Halo. Although I think that´s the only pad that can do it. The ps2 and especialy the gamecube pad are useless for fps.

Yeah, the PS2 pad is pants for FPS because the analogues are just too piddly and weak - and I reckon the general design of the GC pad is off for FPS. You really need a chunky heavy pad what'll stand still while you use it.

Of course I'm not saying the XBox pad is that great for anything else, Tony Hawks is nothing short of crud because of that pad - the PS2 pad is much better for fast arcade and sports games.

Here's something to consider for you GC owners - I was in Comet yesterday, and they were selling steering wheels for the GC, PS2, and XBox, all pretty similar - the PS2 one had an extra DVD remote, but the startling thing was the price. £2.97 for a Gamecube steering wheel, well bless my onions!!!.

Yeah, kids seem to take to consoles regardless of how tough we often find them. For example, my son can play with the Y axis inverted, or not - but he can play without even noticing if it's enabled or not, makes no difference to him at all. Yet give me a pad with inverted Y axis and I'd be dead within seconds!.

Heh... its something that bugs me, the inverted y axis, but within minutes I usually adjust to suit... like Max Payne 2 on the Xbox has it inverted by default... but I didnt bother changing it and Ive nearly finished it...
