I'm commonly getting 404 not founds or just IE "hanging" while loading the forum. It clears up after a while though.

I was wondering, the last time this was brought up things got fixed for a while. Is there a reason, or is it just general slowdown?

The webhost is having issues. Rich said that they pay someone for the server, they dont do it, so he wasn't sure he what the problem was when I talked to him this morning.

Been alright recently but today was painful. Either hanging or SQL errors or even page not found errors. Seems ok now though.

EDIT: But please be kind and stick NOSPAM in there somewhere so the spam crawlers don't attack it...

Today was by far the worst I have ever seen the TGC severs. Both in severity of issues and in duration - hows that for some QA Dept. Feedback

Rick isn't online much, i don't think he has an msn.
Rich is but he is often extremely busy.

If your in desperate need to talk to one of the staff about non-engine related stuff i'd say contact Ravey as i think he is about the only one of them not running around like a headless chicken right now.

I think I know why the forum is having problems ...

It's getting over-excited because Lee is posting again

The problem isn't with the forum specifically, it's with the server in general (which of course in turn effects the forum). Apparently some new monitoring software installed by our host caused the very random problems the other day which they resolved - now we're just left with the more usual problem of peak times of the day causing it to run like a 2 legged-dog in a tar pit.

But the good news is that on Friday Rick agreed to getting a new dedicated server, so we're going to be splitting the forum off onto this new server (which will do nothing but the forum). This will ease up the load massively. We'll get the server next week and it'll take a week or so to prep it and re-code some parts of the site to handle this segregation, but it will at least resolve the issues we're having at certain times of the day.

Cheers,

Rich

But that is real good news about a dedicated server, can't wait to see what is planned for the forum.

a year in the making of just upgrades, and such...
hopefully this is gonna be like playing MGS for the first time on the PS1... and not like the god aweful PS2 prequel

So, a full server for the forum... damn well better run fast.

It was a sequel, now MGS3 will be a prequel.

As for being "God Awful", what the hell game were you playing?

Sons of Liberty was the mission before Snake retired just after Zanzibar. Hense Prequal, and it was aweful...
More of an interactive film with game in-between it, why the hell didn't Kojima make it a Machinima i'll never know.

Twin Snakes was a far better use of the engine. Particularly playing on Normal/Hard modes.

The levels for MGS2 were hardly creative either, which peeved me off. All that power of the PS2, and all they did was enhance the graphics and gameplay... with less guards around it also made it boringly easy even on the hardest mode.

Are you saying prequel to MGS, or prequel to MG?
