Here is my latest project : It's about chemistry (I know my two last completed works were also about chemistry)
But this time it's a game !

The game is fully playable, I only have to improve those things :
- beeing able to pause the game (that'll be easy)
- Getting the graphics better (hmmm ... well some more difficult)
- Some sound effects
- Writing the instructions of the game (when you will click on the "Eng", "Fr", "De" or "Nl", you will get nothing but a blank screen.
- Getting the score saved somewhere

Now here's the game :
Click on "play" to begin (how original)
It's here : http://aziotou.dbspot.com/sciences/chemtrix.zip
Rules :
It's a chemical tetris.
Align four elements of the same family to let them disappear (horizontally and vertically). On the Mendeleïev table every column represents a family.
If you don't know much about chemistry, I joined the table as a PDF file. The goal is simply to align 4 elements of a column, and they'll disappear like in tetris.
The first level has only the first elements of the families, so it will be easy to play, almost like twintrix. Going a level up means to get new elements, so you have to keep your table next to you, or you risk to loose pretty quickly (if you don't have the periodic table of the elements then print mine)

I know, in the first level, you will think it's slow, but once you reach the second level, the speed doesn't increase, but you need the time to search on your table (except you're good at chemistry and know which elements are in which column)

I'd like to know what you think about it, what I could get better, and if you have some suggestions to make.

Oh yeah, thanks Jimmy for hosting

Thanks for the reply, you could also try to do a Tetris, to make a fun sounding game ... Oh you did ? Great

The game got better :
- You can pause the game (press "P")
- The highscores will be saved and displayed
- You can see the rules of the game (except in dutch, but it's in creation right now)

What needs to be improved ?
- graphics
- sound

The game works fine, so enjoy it and tell me whatever you want.

(If you see some mistakes in the English text, please tell me)

Actually you should probably call it Chemtrix!

Sounds cool though, I'll check it out later - puzzle games are great.

Van B, thanks for the advice. Chemtrix was my first idea, but those who speak french didn't understand it : "why saying -trix if it's like tetris. That makes me thing about the movie Matrix; you should say -tris"
That's why I took Chemtris, and now I'm used to that word since mid-June.

Forums went down ? Great that gave me time to fix some things :

- Sound is ok
- Got some special blocks inside (bomb, magic, ...), but only available until level 7
- dutch version is also in (thanks to Lindsay )
- Pushing downkey lets it drop faster (not on every computer )

So now I only have to get the looks better :
If you have anything to suggest : tell me, I do not have any idea about what I could do for a style

It's just that I think it's actually against copyright law to end your name in 'tris - one of nintendo's things to stop people selling Tetris clones that sound too much like the original. Probably would'nt affect you though so it's no biggie .

Finished

Hmmm, I allways thought Tetris existed before Nintendo. For we had Tetris on our old computer (Black and orange screen), when I was a child.

Actually it is illegal to have 'tris' as any sylabble in a title of a falling blocks game. (source: gamedev.net)

This sig has been dullified!

Lol

I think in future you should make a version where you can stack up elements, and if it's possible for them to react then they react and disappear. You could get points for the Mr (RAM) of the resultant compound

Changed it into Chemtrix

David T, could be a nice Idea. but have to find a checking system to see if it reacts ... and I should find a list of all elements that are reacting. But thanks for the comment.

And I got it in the programm announcement board, shall I ask mods to delete this thread ?

Hmm, there isn't a definitive way to ensure they react - but you could limit yourself to ionic reactions which makes it a helluva lot easier.
