I was 'messing about' changing the folder icons (which worked nicely) but now when I double click a folder icon I get a search window open up!

If I right click the icon I get this menu:

Which shows that 'Search' has become the default option for folders.

I have tried retracing my steps but I can't get 'Open' back as default.

Can anyone please tell me where I £"@#ed up and let me know how to get back to normal?

Thank you

Ouch, sorry I can't help but I can imagine how bloody annoying that must be.

Have you tried a google search?

I have now and I got this result http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321186&Product=winxp

But i am very reluctant to use it because I have no idea what goes on in the registry and I really don't like the sound of that warning.

I don't really suppose I have much choice .... I will wait an hour just in case anyone has a better solution before diving in to the registry.

[Edit] Patience got the better of me! An hour? who was I kidding? I mnaged to wait 5 minutes before trying it.
IT DIDN'T WORK!!!! I did everything that the help page said to do - I was very precise about it after reading the warning and although nothing else has gone wrong, it hasn't improved anything either.

Can anyone please help me - it has only been happening for about 15 minutes but it is already intensly annoying!

[Edit 2] I take it back ... it did work! I just had to do it for folders AND drives. Oh well, I think I will stick to the default icons instead.

That was the first thing I tried. Sadly it didn't work.

System Restore has gotten me out of some very bad situations.... Sometimes I might do something stupid by accident like, click the "Install Spyware from over 5,000 different websites" button, which is on my desktop, and then I'm outta luck. until I use
