I'm in the same boat. Got loads of snippets, loads of unfinished stuff, just about understand most commands enough to be confident of using them properly. My workload at work has died down a bit for summer which means I don't need to work until 8 or 9pm every night.
I have bought NG collision DLL and like Wolf's EZRotate DLL enough to think about writing a game with them. Also bought Milkshape but have no experience in creating 3d models so that is something I need to learn quickly, unless I write a game consisting solely of cubes and spheres!
What may get people starting coding is the launch of this years retro remakes compo (
http://www.remakes.org )on 1st July with tonnes of prizes on offer.
The various physics wrappers being written are very interesting and should result in some brilliant games being written but that is probably some time off yet.
Also 5.4 should really help in writing bugfree games. There are still too many niggly problems that hinder me but I now see most of my bug reports have already been fixed.
So I think I will wait until 1st July to see what the remakes compo rules are and go from there. That gives me a week to learn Milkshape.
Boo!
