Hmm. I have a ton of unfinished projects, loads of snippets and experiments, proof of concept, that type of stuff, but I've not managed to put all this into a game yet. I'm not sure what to attempt... maybe I'll hold out for the next competition and that'll give me a goal. Remakes.org got one starting on a week so that might be a good one. I should probably go back to basics and do pong or something, yawn. Any suggestions from da community? Anything in particular you'd like to play/see/use that's been done in DBP? Not a MMORPG! Hee hee. Fishing for ideas...

People alway want 2d Map examples. Maybe make a 2D sidescroller.

Do they? - I have a lovely 2D map editor and engine - should really upload it soon (it's here already, just not advertised - made for a newbie).

I reckon a FPS is good for all round experience building projects, you have to deal with everything in an FPS, and it all has to be solid and fast. But FPS is a tired genre, so here's a game idea.

Unreal Tournament makes no sense - in the future we won't be shooting each other, then regenerating so we can get shot again - if there ever was a real life tournament like that, it'd most likely involve dynamic ROV's (remote operated vehicle's). I have this idea - you take a chain gun, give it some chunky wheels and a camera - and make the wheels magnetic. The idea is that these bots can jump onto walls and roofs and ride on them with their sticky wheels - and when you jump onto a wall, the wall really acts like the new floor, there's very little real orientation in the game because you can go anywhere - imagine a game where the enemies can come from absolutely any angle and hide behind any structure.

VanB you're idea sounds like a cross between RobotWars and AVP (in alien mode).

I've been playing UT2k4 recently, and it has reaffirmed by belief that vehicles+guns rule. There simply aren't enough games that combine the two in the way that say, SWIV on the amiga did.

You have summarized my experience with DBP thus far. Hopefully that will change soon

How about UT, but when you die, you're actually dead, and the game deletes itself and never lets you play it again, ever.

Now that's realism!

I'm in the same boat. Got loads of snippets, loads of unfinished stuff, just about understand most commands enough to be confident of using them properly. My workload at work has died down a bit for summer which means I don't need to work until 8 or 9pm every night.

I have bought NG collision DLL and like Wolf's EZRotate DLL enough to think about writing a game with them. Also bought Milkshape but have no experience in creating 3d models so that is something I need to learn quickly, unless I write a game consisting solely of cubes and spheres!

What may get people starting coding is the launch of this years retro remakes compo ( http://www.remakes.org )on 1st July with tonnes of prizes on offer.

The various physics wrappers being written are very interesting and should result in some brilliant games being written but that is probably some time off yet.

Also 5.4 should really help in writing bugfree games. There are still too many niggly problems that hinder me but I now see most of my bug reports have already been fixed.

So I think I will wait until 1st July to see what the remakes compo rules are and go from there. That gives me a week to learn Milkshape.

Ditto, if I write another "Invaders" or "Packman" game I will explode , my trouble is that I always have suffered from serious "lack of original ideas syndrome", everything ends up looking like invaders or packman , maybe I should write a "original ideas prompter" based on Eliza or something like that

@all - ah, glad I'm not the only one feeling like this

Buggy's and guns, nice, remids me of Red Dog on Dreamcast. The multiplayer on that rocks, still play it every now and then. Here's a shot from the 4 player,

http://www.thegnet.ch/dreamcast/reddog/bilder/bg03.jpg

Cool.

@Van, good idea about stuff crawling all over the level.

@Spooky, people on the remakes.org forum seem to have started stuff already, which is weird, becuase the theme/rules arn't annouced yet?! Maybe something leaked...

Cheers,
