Hi...

I'm new with 3d games.. and I just want to know something..

Do I just create my map in a 3d modeling software and then I save it as a x file and after load my map in DBPro?

Could anyone help please...

BTW I'm trying to make a racing game with... upgrades.. and different cities... and later if everything goes well I want to be able to play it multiplayer.

Everything is on paper but now it's time see what I can do with DBPro.

The only thing is, I'm not very good with modeling either so.. if anyone would like to help me to make some cars I would really like them to e-mail me at [email protected].

ONE LAST THING
Is there any tutorial that shows how to make the wheels turn on left and right side when the car turns?

Thanks, cheers!

I suggest using modelling software (which comes in all prices and feature ranges from freebies to thousands of dollars) to create the vehicles.

Making levels can be done in a lot of ways. You can create a matrix for rolling terain, you can use BSPs for Quake/HL style levels, you can make a track from .X files, etc. A lot of it depends on programming and artisitic preferences.

As to vehicle steering, that can be accomplished with limbs. Attach the tires to the main body of your vehicle and go from there. If you're using DBP, a LOT has changed with the new release so I can't offer too much advice or code right now. [I use relative placement rather than limbs, but that was based on past limitations.]

Download a free 3D modelling package (JTEdit, Wings3D, DeleD just to name a few). Build a few simple models and try to get them into a DBPro app. That should get you started.

Use the free 3D modeller DeleD to get skilled in 3d editing! Visit http://www.delgine.com for more info.

Not that much has changed with the new release. Only a couple of things that I can see.

1. load the models into the game
2. create a main loop
3. in the main loop use the relative motion commands to position the tire models relative to the vehicle's body
4. when you detect the player's input to turn (mouse, keys, joystick), use the turn object commands to rotate the front wheels appropriately

Too easy. You really need to read up on the basic 3D commands section so you have a feel for what is possible.

Pirating...tsk tsk tsk...if you cant afford the tool, dont use the tool. Its the person that makes good models, not the modellign program. Buy milkshape for 20 dollars instead of stealing someone else's hard work.

For making game models, Milkshape 3D is one of the best jack of all trades tools out there. It can model down to the poly level, it has multiple materials support, reads/writes a ton of formats, it has some basic skinning/texture mapping capability, and it can animate models. Plus, since it is also used in the MOD scene there are plenty of tutorials on the web for it.
