Do the animated models work in Darkbasic? Anybody have any experience with this program? I animated a simple object and exported it to an .X file. But when I load it into darkbasic and tell it to play the animation, the object just sits there.

yeap ,they work perfectly , and its quite easy to use , you'll see , but there is TWO problems with that tool ..

if you want to do good animations , you'll must pass a lot of time , and it won't have supergood results cause the animations commands are quite oldfashioned and slow to use

in your DB program , you must increasr your object speed with
set object speed
and as posible , make all the animations in the same file , and then , parse them with vars , as an exemple , the walking animation would be at frame 1 and would stop at frame 20 , the jump animation would be from the frame 20 to 40
see the roomdemo.dba in the projects root for more details .
is your problem solved ??

A program is sensed to be a conventional mean to give orders to a computer and not being obscure, weird, and full of traps ,that is closer to magic stuff (Dave Small).

In CFX, for some stoopid reason the animation is scaled, make sure when you export that the scaling on the animation and the mesh is set to 1.0 - otherwise you will have about 200 times as many frames as the original animation.

Personally I love CFX, it's damn easy to use and I doubt there's an animation solution that exports so well to DBPro.

DBC doesnt support bone based animation, so I guess you'd be out of luck.

Preston

I'f that's the case, then he'll need to look for a tool that uses IK animation. TrueSpace 4.3 comes to mind.

Thanks preston, I guess the online versions worth it, however, does Dark matter work well with Darkbasic? Can you use it to build your own 3D models, or are there only models included that you can use?
ANyways, 60$ for the whole package....WHOOHA!!! JandR is selling DBPro for 89$!!! Thats overkill

Dark Matter is just a model pack. Thats all, just contains models you can use in your games (and their all pretty good too), you can't use it to build models. What you're referring to is a modeller. If you want one, try out some freeware ones such as Wings3D (my personal favorite, http://www.wings3d.com), Anim8or (http://www.anim8or.com/), JTEdit (http://www.jtgame.com/jtedit/), and Truespace 3.2 (not sure, google for it).

Cheers,
Preston

I live in the USA too, ordered my copy last year and it arrived pretty quickly. Don't worry about it.

Well Preston, since your online right now............Ive got pretty much every freeware modeler out there. Ive tried them all. Some are good some aint. However, are there any references to which modelers were used to create the models in Darkmatter? I really need to make my own models and animate them, I dont know how to put pictures up here, but If I could Id show you that Darkmatter definitely doesnt have the model I need!

The models in DarkMATTER were all made in 3DS Max 4, Which is a damn expensive modelling package but is great for DBC limb animations.

You could always write your own modeller in DBC.

You can handle animation in DBC and DBPro. But its down to just rotating limbs and setting keyframes if their not pre animated. So basically, create your model with multiple limbs, give it the position you want for it's frame, etc, etc.

Preston

So no moving around in any direction, only show rotation?

You can offset the limbs too. Check the animation commands in the Basic3D command set.

I think you can export animated models using milkshape, you need to use the direct x jt games exporter, but I believe it does work, and thats with bones, but I think what it does is just strips away the bones and saves the vertex data, not sure though.

In terms of limb animation, most of the work is simple limb rotations, which DBC can do for you - I mean anyone who's used 3DS Max's keyframe animation system will tell you, it's not anything startling and could certainly be replicated in a DBC animator thingy.

The models that come with DBC seem to work well in terms of animation, can those models be used in a game I make? Y'know, change the textures around some...
