3 Dimensional Chat / Deled keeps crashing--are there any other level design programs out there?

Deled keeps crashing when I try to add my own 128X128 or 256X256 textures, BMp format. Are there any other programs I can use to make levels. Other than cartography shop?

Hey, that's a weird problem. I'm the programmer of DeleD. Can you send me those textures so I can take a look? I've had reports of this error before and would like to take a closer look.

They have to be in 24bit btw, so maybe that's the problem.

@JeroenNL would you say that DeleD is an easy to use modeler cuz I am looking for one that's easier to use other than Wings3D.

Ditto. When I click on the texture to apply it to an object, I get an error message and then Deled wont open anymore, THEN after I close and open it, when I click in one of the views to make a level...I get a different error..

@ Anime: I would say that Wings3D is more suitable for objects like humans and complicated things like that while DeleD is easier to use when it comes to levels/buildings/etc.

@ GameFreak: Thanks for the bugreport. I think it has something to do with the file not being 24bit. Haven't received the file yet but i'll look into it pronto, hoping to fix that problem in version 0.86.

I hate to sound like a dork but here goes:
This happened a while ago. When I lost my level I switched over to trying to make 3D models in Blender, that didnt work either. I went back to Deled only to find that I deleted (no pun) the entire directory and had reinstalled Deled. I lost the tiles and cant even figure out which ones I had put into my level before it went AWOL. Im kinda scared to use Deled again cause I really got far with this level, and now I cant modify the level anymore, I cant even export it to save whats left. So....whens 0.86 coming?

I expect version 0.86 to be out in a week or 2. Have to do some heavy coding on the plugin system but that's about it. In the mean time, can you send me that level (if you still have it) so I can take a look? Also, send me any textures that cause the problem. Feel free to mail directly to [email protected].

I tried it and again I got the error, when I tried to load the tile, the whole program crashed. I couldnt even close the window. m sending you the texture right now.... I made a cylinder and it was ok, but as soon as I tried to add the texture..BOOM, it crashes on me.

Good, so is DeleD good for animating cuz then I'll import wings models into DeleD and animate them?
But I can use DeleD to make levels so thats good too.

Nope, DeleD doesn't animate. Maybe it will in the future, but that'll be a while. You can use DeleD for levels and reasonable complex 3D models.

For animation check out characterFX, that is if youve made your models already, and their in the 3DS format.

Ill definitely look into it, good idea megaton, I would have never thought of it. However, is it legal to export levels for personal use from UT? I know the mod community does, but I mean, to make my OWN game, wouldnt a liscense be needed or.....

Recently I heard that DeleD crashes when using Photoshop BMP files! The solution is to save your BMP files again using MS Paint.

Weird problem, but it's solvable...

I'm using FarCry editor to create a heightmap files and textures - it is very useful now when Advanced Terrain came out =) it is very buggy but very powerfull and FREEEEEEE!!!! =))
