I did something really silly last night...I had NIS (notron internet security) installed on me win 2k pc at home (containing 40 gb of hard code).
I noticed that my internet connection was considerably slow and i couldn't do a thing. So i decieded to uninstall it and re-download the Mcafee software i had bought. This was to be my downfall!

After uninstalling NIS i was unable to get IE to access the internet for 2 hours. Eventually i got IE to access the internet after thinking i had fully got rid of NIS.

I downloaded Mcafee firewall plus and ran it (ran as sweet as!). Then i downloaded Mcafee Virus Scan, well of course NIS was still half on my system and the two systems collided, rendering me pc useless. I was unable to boot it other than into safe mode. I ended up only being able to copy 10gb of code .

Thanks to Norton i have lost 30gb of hard code (luckily some of it is on my laptop) and lost most of all the software i downloaded!! (plus me emails too!)

Anyway i have the fun job tonight of updating all me software (direct x n all!) and getting all the mcafee software installed.

Damn norton to hell!!!!!

I got rid of Norton at home too - the installation/uninstallation routines should be much better than they are.


Are you sensitive enough?

Hey! Norton isn't as bad as you think! It works for me and, well....hey! NIS takes up THAT much space on my PC? DAMN NORTON TO HELL!

I like Panda, and Panda likes M$ Outlook, so it's a pretty decent virus protection for Outlook users.

And it's like £30 and is updated daily.

I did use panda before. When i checked for viruses it said none were on my system. When i changed to NIS it found 50 definate virus'!! I'm not having much luck really am i?

I used to have Norton, but I downloaded the 2004 trial as my subscription was running low. It was soooo slow, my 3Ghz pc turned into something slower than my 200Mhz box. My dvd software which usually takes 20mins took 50mins to complete, my music kept jumping as NIS was obsessively scanning my harddisk all the time.

Now I use Trend 2004 and I like it

I think the general feeling about NIS is it is slow, unreliable and not worth the money you pay for it.

Anyone considering getting it, stay well away!

I wouldn't say unreliable because it does TAKE OVER your pc, and because of that it is pretty good when stopping viruses etc.

But that is what causes all it's bad things, slowness, inability to remove itself (it's like the facehugger off alien) etc

what about e-trust EZ armor? I have McAffee at te mo, but I don't like it (it's the NetProtect version). EZ armor is $50 (ie. about £26) v. cheap! Downloading the demo now (30 day trial).

Anyone out there used this before? Is it good?
