well i am not sure what lightwave discovery is exactly but i used
http://members.shaw.ca/lightwavetutorials/Main_Menu.htm a lot when i first got started. its funny because lightwave seems so daunting at first and it took me a couple of monthes to master the basics but once you get into it
lightwave will be your most versatile tool

http://www.suture.net/tutorials/modeling/index.shtml
will go over the tool basics, hope that helps.
Welcome to the lightwave community. Goodluck

wow thanks...Hey i remember you lol...sorry I lost your email last time when I formatted my hard drive...thanks again

and for further reference Lightwave Discovery Edition is a free educational program. It is supplied with a book called Essential Lightwave my book hassnt arrived yet but newtek sent me a free copy of the program it includes the modeller too....no help files though..and it cannot be used commercially...and it can only be used by one person....but its commercial license is sooo cheap( $1599 last time I checked) its not a problem to upgrade I first want to learn the app before I buy it....

thanks again....

I'm all in favour of free stuff! I have looked on the Newtek website but I could not find anything about the 'Discovery Edition'.

Could you please let us all know where you got it from?

Thanks

i got it from newtek but you cant get it off their website...I went to the newtek distributor for my country which was in another city...it even exports to 3ds...you can also get it at amazon.com...but then you have to buy the book which is about $45 to $50 i havent read anything about a watermark and it seems to be the whole program...it's lightwave 3d 7.5 DE and modeller...you can look at the resellers page on the newtek website. To find a reseller near you...if not pay the money and get a great book to teach you lightwave as well as a great program...I orderd the book through my reseller but it hasnt arrived yet thats why he sent me the disk ...oh i had to pay postage lol....It does have import problems though only one weird format....and like i said its not commercial....but check it out...heres the site to but it...

Wrong, the Lightwave Discovery Edition(or DE) is available from their website.

You see,Newtek is kinda weird, their only Demo is this DE edition and at the same time,it's the software update.Only thing you need for it to be a full version,is the USB Dongle.

So basically, you just download the 7.5c update from the link below,Install and Run it and bam,you got a Lightwave version that saves up to 400 polygon in one mesh(meaning you can get any number of poly as long as their part of a diff object for say a robot, vehicle) that can Render with a watermark...I don't think it expires as well but you can only use this for non-commercial projects.

BTW:Be on the lookout for Modo after Siggraph.
