Im tryin to make a small city for my game I use 3dsmax 5 for modeling.
the problems:
1.Should I convert the main parts of the map (buildings, walls, flat ground, etc) to BSP and use a terrain program for hills and stuff or should I export the objects individualy into .x format (I have a good exporter plugin) and load them and collision detect them individually in dbp.
2. When I export my objects into .x format they load fine with textures and all perfect, however when I convert them to bsp instead of some of the object being one texture and the rest of it being another like a window on a wall, the whole wall will be one texture .
3. When I load a building into dbp and use collision detection you can go through some parts of the building. I have tryed all of the differnt methods for collision detection poly, box, sphere, etc.

So what do you guys think I should do?
Thanks for any help

My advice would be to use .X and either use DB's collision routines (free) or the Nuclear Glory Collision DLL (shareware.) Alternately, if you want to get physical, check out the Newton physics (free) thread in the program announcement board. Walaber is a pretty helpful guy and has even set up another small forum to help people that use his Newton wrapper.

Thanks for the help i've got a lot of it working fine (you can move around the level and wont fall through the ground and wont go through buildings).
The thing I really cant figure out is how to make the player go upstairs. (each step it 10 units high) please help someone.
Also for collision detection I find the closest 10 objects and detect if the player is colliding with them which seems to work fine, however this will endup being very anoying when I have to check if every object in the map is close to the player (will endup being hundreds) is there an easier way.
Also how should I collision detect the buildings to find out if the player is on the roof of a building (so he/she can walk on it) instead of being sent to the last x,y,z co-ordinate.

Thanks for any help
