Are either of these possible in DBC and if so how?

Real time shadows are accomplished via the commands in the LIGHT set and messing around with SET OBJECT. However, bump maps are something only recently put to extensive use and as a reslt are only available in DBPro.

crazy bear is right, if you look at the DBC help files, lee made a demo of creati shadows using only lights - but mind you, DBC handles light creation and manipulation poorly and eats up much resources. In bumpmapping, you can try to use TDKman's MatEDIT, he has an example of using bumapping in DBC

I was wondering why the creators of darkbasic never made dbc, compatible for patches and stuff. So you can have access to new crap, like directx 9.0, and all the new shaders and stuff. They didnt plan ahead did they

It does'nt matter what side of the road you drive on, you'll still crash...

Yes, they did. Except DBC came out a LONG time ago, well not long like retro long, but y'know what I mean. Basically they got to a point where if they added any more it would get really ugly and slow, so they rewrote their engine to support all the new stuff, and there is DBPro.

Yea.. so it's like DBPro is a whole new evolution update to DBC.

Back to the subject, if I remember correctly, the example that Lee made for DBC was casting a shadow of a shpere onto a matrix. What he had done was that he did somekind of vertex check against the sphere and light. If the vertex was "behind" the sphere, he reversed the "Normals" of the vertices of the matrix, which made the vertex to appear darker. But you need a really dense high poly mesh for the shadow to appear correctly.

- Adi

There's only one hope.

yeah, but they should have made dbc compatible for updated dlls, so if you wanted your game to support dx9.0, you just conviently download it from this site, seems so simple.

I somehow think it wouldn't be that simple. Someone has to write the dlls.

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

well yeah, but the idea is simple, see they could even put a price on some of the dll's. You know, I mean I would pay a little for dx9.0 support, you know what if a new, faster model format comes out, you'd think you would want that in your game. If they would have made some kind of features editor or something, so they could easily get rid of the features theu didnt need anymore and add the new ones, so dbc, would still run fast. If they would have done that it wouldnt be ugly and slow.
