Hey all,

You're probably sick to death of hearing about WordTrix 2.0, so I'll say it once and for all that it's FINALLY DONE!

I would normally post this in the game announcements forum but this game was made in *cough* C++ *cough* using Direct3D, so I would be immoral posting it in a DBP forum. And hey, I've seen tons of posts in the general chat about different games by different companies, so why not?

If you want screenies I'll post them but by now many of you have already seen my other posts here and on the *other* DBP forum...

Link: http://www.automatongames.com/wordtrix/WordTrix2Setup.exe

The "official" release of this game is July 27th (my fiance's birthday), but since I love just about each and every one of you almost as much as my cat, I've uploaded it early. The online high score board is looking rather lonely, so I'd like to see it worked on!

P.S. - I couldn't have done this without the great help of Aegis from http://www.aegisarts.com/. He handled 99% of the art in the game, and for that I'm thankful (I'm hardly a decent coder let alone an artist).

Great game idea, very well presented, first game when i've been in the top 3 on the online leader board! Your onto a winner mate Love the menu's and the ability to change the graphic sets, its just generally pretty damn good.

nice one

Cool, thanks guys ReD_eYe, I see you've made your way onto the board!

By the way, the wordlist for WordTrix 2.0 is tremendously better than the WordTris 1.5 one--- there's no first names and acronyms--- all the words are real!

Hopefully this version doesn't allow the same kind of, *ahem*, cheating as the last game. I think some of the scores were up in the 500's--- way too impossible to achieve naturally

If I didn't make a bonehead maneuver there at the end I would be #1 now instead of that ><|||| whatever person!

Are there any themes you guys like or dislike? I prefer the last one, 'I', looks like a Tron theme. I also usually turn off the backdrop so as not to divert my attention when in the heat of things

ok some gripes: ()

-Please eliminate the letter "R" from the game. And while youre at it, "X" and "Q" can go too.
-slow the bricks fall speed
-red block every-third cube
just kidding...

Seriously:
-Make web score link in start menu open a New browser session, not hijack any current one

-is the tilting back and forth there for just an eye candy factor, or does it somehow make the game easier/harder? From here it doesn't make it any more or less dificult - its just annoying imho

-make the web page accept more than 10 chars! 30 would be nice but I'd settle for 13---> (cattlerustler)

thats all. not trying to be harsh - game play is fantastic

Great Job once again

I'll go through and address your concerns:

Quote: "-Please eliminate the letter "R" from the game. And while youre at it, "X" and "Q" can go too.
-slow the bricks fall speed
-red block every-third cube
"

Done!*

* just kidding

Quote: "-Make web score link in start menu open a New browser session, not hijack any current one"

I wish I knew how :-p I only just recently figured out how to even create a shortcut file! I will fix that ASAP.

Quote: "-is the tilting back and forth there for just an eye candy factor, or does it somehow make the game easier/harder? From here it doesn't make it any more or less dificult - its just annoying imho"

I did it because I was doing a little showing off. I wanted people to see that it's *really* 3D and not just 2D sprites. I'll put an option in there to disable that "feature" ASAP.

Quote: "-make the web page accept more than 10 chars! 30 would be nice but I'd settle for 13---> (cattlerustler)"

I'll do that tonight when I get off work. I originally put the limit in there because I didn't want humongous names. I'll increase the length to 15 ASAP.

Quote: "thats all. not trying to be harsh - game play is fantastic

Great Job once again"

Thanks for the good words These are all legitimate concerns (well, except the first 3 ) and I'll update as soon as I can! I will also finish the website soon and I will modify the high scores so it will detect which version of the game you're running and will let you know when there's updates, etc. Hopefully this won't be that often!

Excellent - love it

although gets a bit madly fast a bit quickly.

I was in panic mode for the last 40 words or so.

Plus the dictionary doesn't accept as many words as the last one.

Great fun though

also can you make it a wee bit more processor friendly if possible - my laptops scorching

Yeah, for some reason it slowed down gameplay to have more than 6 letter words. Have you managed to get an 8 letter word with WordTris 1.5? I would be very impressed if so

Have you tried turning the backdrop off? It tends to speed things up quite a bit!

Quote: "But what botheres me is it accepted poo as a word...but not poop...odd..."

Hmmm.... perhaps poo is a word and poop isn't? Next time you're playing scrabble you can write out poo and nobody can say it's not a word

I think some of my dodgy 3 letter scrabble type words weren't recognised.
I've never gone over 6 letters before - way to tricky.

As for processor friendly - the speed is fine with the back drop on its just that its using 100% processor all the time - wondering whether a delay of a millisecond or 2 in the main loopwould be possible. It's my laptop that's really the problem here though.

Cheers

Thanks for the good words

Oh that sucks--- if that happens again can you let me know which words they were? I'll make sure to check the game's dictionary to see if they're in

EDIT:

Android - I'll place this game on as many sites as I can on or around July 27th. Just waiting for a few days to see if anyone notices a tremendous bug or two As far as I know, Download.com costs money, though--- I may have to find other alternatives, but thanks for the suggestion!

Proteus: Congrats!

I must warn you, however, because my mother will be downloading this game within the next few days. She played my beta and got a words score pretty close to 200

Glad to see people are enjoying the game! I've been getting some feedback via email from a few testers and have made a patch for R2. It fixes a few bugs PLUS has the ability to Pause!

Just move the mouse during gameplay and your game will Pause!

If you've already got the game downloaded and just want to download the R2 EXE, download it from http://www.automatongames.com/wordtrix/R2/WordTrix.exe and place it into your game's folder (usually Program Files/Automaton Games/WordTrix 2.0)

If you're new to the game, the regular download link contains the patched copy.

Thanks again for the feedback, and any more concerns please don't hesitate to contact me!
