well, im in a programming compo right now and we're making a topdown 2d space shooter. I needed a really fast way to make alot of ships and having it look okay because normally i would have pixeled it, but this project requires over 30 ships which would take waaaaayy too long to do by hand. so i turned to low poly 3d with no texture mapping. really fast and it looks semi decent once exported to a top down sprite. well, here is one of the ships (my best so far out of the ones i made)

tell me what ya think of it.

Pretty neat solution to your problem and a nice looking model too. An alternate method might be to use a program like DoGA CGA which is more 'kit bashing' than making a model one vert at a time. Since you have good camera control in DoGA, you can render your sprites straight from there or export the models in .X format. DoGA is also very easy to use.

well, i found that 3d canvas works great. I can do exactly what you said i could do with DoGA with 3d canvas. I switch the camera view to top down and then take a screenshot of it and its instantaniously done. As simple as that. thanks for the tip though
