Previously only available for UWD forum members this package is now downloadable for everyone.
It allows you to change icons of DB and DBpro apps even on Win98 plus a few other things.

What program do you use to make a multi-layer (multi-resolution) icon?

I use an older version of Iconforge.
Came on a cover CD.

All right! I was able to give my DBpro program a custom icon that looks good whether the directory is viewed as Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, List or Details.

The program still displays the yellow pyramid icon on the taskbar while loading, but this is nonetheless a major improvement. Thanks!

I would much rather use a newer program to make an icon, because the older version of IconForge can only go up to 256 colors. That's pretty pathetic compared to today's standards.

IIRC IconForge support 32bit Icons since version 4.
BTW Icons with more than 256 colours are only supported by Win XP.

Why would you need more than 256 colors in an icon?
Noone would notice...

And I have never used more than 25 colors in an icon.

For the record, I tried a suggestion from another thread and replaced Compiler\plugins\icon.ico with my program's icon, then recompiled. That had no effect on the yellow-pyramid-in-the-taskbar issue either.

Hmm, I can't reproduce that issue.
Have you tried "View -> Refresh" after the you changed the icon? Windows probably cached the old one.

I am using WinXP. "View -> Refresh" didn't fix it. I also tried adding a 16x16x256 icon (before I had 32x32x256, 32x32x16, and 16x16x16) and that didn't do anything either.

It's a fairly large program (6.71 MB) and it takes a second to load. Otherwise you probably wouldn't even notice, though I guess this is also a problem for windowed programs.

Okay, it turns out I had the project set to not include the media (for faster compile times). When I included the media I started seeing the desired 16x16 icon in the taskbar.

Problem solved. Excellent!

Yes as soon as the app runs you can specify the icon. But while windows is loading the app it uses the main icon for the task bar.

I've been using the Project Manager in the default IDE under "Icons". It seems to work - when I compile the program, my .exe file has my new icon, however, it seems to be only 16 color. Can anyone verify this? Is there a way to use higher resolution icons?

Also, why can you include MANY icons in this pane? Is there a way to change the icon in the task manager running in Windows? The above post(s) indicate it can be done within the code? Any sniplets to do this?

the whole point of the program released in this thread is to allow you to replace the icon with full-color ones. works great, give it a try!

Im pretty sure you can just make your 31x31 images in mspaint and change it from .bmp to .ico. I remember doing that once...

The default icon has multiple resolutions in it. It has 3 or 4 different images stored inside.
