I am pretty sure .3ds has no animation format. This was a major reason I didn't learn the freeware Anim8or as I was told it couldn't save animations as it only did .3ds.

"Damn had to remake account!" direct quotation from previous account.

This is the process... All this is in 3d Studio Max.

1.- First I create a mesh (Body).
2.- Put some skin or textures on it.
3.- Put some bones to the mesh and create the skeleton.
4.- Since my mesh has a skeleton I can animate it.
5.- Import the mesh (.3ds file).
6.- Load the .3ds object into Darkbasic (clasic and pro).
7.- The object loads but the animation is all wrong.
a)the skeleton is animated but it's all out of place.
b)the mesh is ok but don't animate.

Thanks for your help.
