hi all

basically i'm looking for a 3D editor that can import and export .x models aswell as edit them.

any1 know of a program that does that?

i know 3d studio max doesn't do it either way. Milkshape 3D has been updated and i found out it doesn't support .mdl models no more. only MDL4 MDL5 and MDL6 as it says when i tried to open an old ship model i made a while back. i found an older version of the program but it doesn't import in .x format.

i know some folk have asked which is the best but i'm looking for 1 that does wot a need.

any help will be well appreciated

i got milkshape 3D and the 3D games studio model editor. i make em in MED(3d games studio) and then export em to milkshape.

it does the job but its a bit long winded.

the thing is milkshape CANNOT import .x files only EXPORT em which i a bummer to be honest.

You just don't know Milkshape 3d. Go to the tools menu and look for the DirectX Mesh Tools menu item.

ok i found it ages ago... but what the hell do i do with it. it just crashes the program out and i use the term lightly.

i had to go back to an older version of milkshape just to get a more stable system to use.

It allows you to preview .X meshes and import them into Milkshape.

i got true space. had a look at it but no .x support that i've seen so far.

i might just try .3ds for the time being as all the ons i got support that format.

i'll keep searching and maybe i'll come across one.

does truespace support .x? i read in a forum post it does.

He's right. It opens up non-animated .x files perfectly.

truespace has supported .X for quite a while. Around 4.3 they added key frame animation, so that would be the minimum version I would look for.
