Here's what you want to do. Take your idea, write it down in detail. Then, put it away for awhile. It's probably too complicated for you at this point. Start off with something that's been done already. Something where you'll be able to find source to reference. Like a pong game or something.
I'm not trying to be difficult or smother your idea. If you make something like pong, you'll learn alot of things that you'll probably end up using in your concept project. Plus, if you get stuck there's always those other programs to reference from the code vault. You'll also be able to ask for assistance since everyone know's what a pong game is and how it should behave.
After you've become more comfortable with the new techniques that you've learned through completing several small projects, you can start to work on your concept project. Don't try and do the whole thing at once. Break it up into routines. I've seen lots of programs that do everything in the main loop, which depending on the complexity of the program can be a huge crutch...and require you to go back and rework your entire source. That's never fun.
