Hi all

With this new Advanced Terrain for DBPro already out, I wanted to try and see if I could get some nice looking Bryce Terrain's working in DBPro

The problem is that Bryce doesn't export heightmaps, and no other modeller I have will create a heightmap from a model.

Basiclly I'm asking if there are any tools or programs that can make a gheightmap from say a .3ds terrain model.

Thanks

Grinneh

ok grinneh

there is a way to do it. i've used bryce 5 to make an .hmp file or height map.

now i know it doesn't nativly export them but u can export the images. one in black and white for telling it the height. basically the whiter the higher the landscape. and then u need to export the textured image as the overlay.

i can't quiet remember exatly how to do that but i have done it.

and i used the modeling tool that somes with 3d games studio as it allows to export to .hmp if u import the black and white image.

i bet thers some other ones out there that will do it alot better though as the ones i made tended to look cheep and needed a lot of altering

hope that help a bit

easy enough:
Put the camera at the top of your world, facing down (there's a preset for it).

Under render options, check "Altitude Map".

Set render size to the size of the texture you want.

Render and export the image.

You can also use this method to get a texture for the terrain (by turning off lighting and Altitude Map).

Hope I helped! ~Underhill

if you left the lighting on could you not just have a lightmapped texture so the level is lightmapped reducing darkbasic's rendering load because you can turn off the lighting for the level object
