ok I have a .x file, which is completly useless in that format as there is not a 3d modeling software on the planet(that I can find) that will load it, there are no converters that can change it to a readable file. and I just want to change the file names of the textures inside of it so that it accepts jpgs instead of bmps. how do I do this?

You ignorance does not dictate reality. [joking, really...]

Milkshape 3D has a .X mesh reader in the tools menu. Pricy conversion tools like Deep Exploration can read in .X in a snap.

Have you tried opening the .X in Notepad? The majority of .X files are in plain text format. Just do a word search for quotation marks and you will find the file names. Simply change the extentions from BMP to JPG, save the file, and you should be good to go.

yeah i got it to work, thanx anyways. the text file was my idea, but alas it didn't work for some reason, but the trial of deep exploration fixed it.

editors that deal with .x are rare, but not nonexistent apparently.

Sometimes WordPad does a better job of showing the file than Notepad does...

notepad showed it well enough, but edited versions failed to load. even when I restored the file to its original form, (undid my changes) it refused to load... but like I said I fixed so no worries.
