Hi,i wanted to ask you all, where do you get the textures from for your 3d models?Do you create them yourself,do you buy a texture pack, somewhere to download?Do you rip them? And about that last one, what do you think about that.Som modelers do that.Rip textures from games.I did it a few times 2.But i never used any models in games,or uploaded it on a website.I kept it personal. But i think it must not be a problem to rip and use it 2 in a game, what do you think?

Ripping = theft. Pure and simple. Given that there are thousands and thousands of royalty free textures that you can download off the internet, there is no reason to steal.

i'd say make your own - that way there is no chance of copyright infringement

I usually make my own, other times, I take a texture from unrelated pictures, and fiddle with it (like turning tree bark into fur, sky into marble).

Ripping ----still---- is illegal. If you read the user agreement before joining the forum, one of the rules is no discussing of illegal activity (Warez/KaZaA/Ripping) which could result in a ban Ill let it slip this time...but one more mention = temp ban.

The hammer has fallen! Whatever that means.

Anyways, check out [href]www.gimp.org[/href] and get THE GIMP. Absolutely free graphics program. Most Photoshop tutorials work for this.

Speaking of which, does anybody know of where to get photoshop tutorials? That would be sponge-matic.

Right there you said you used ripped textures I responded by telling you thats illegal, and mentioning on this boards is against the forum rules...

The TGC Acceptable Usage Policy

Under Section 3: 3. Forums and Guestbook Rules

Do not involve or advocate illegal activities (including piracy)

By saying you used ripped textures was involving/advocating piracy. Just telling you not to do that again...Just a warning - didnt have to get all defensive about it

Lets just let it go, I just wanted to tell you that you probably shouldnt mention your use of ripped textures here...End of story.

I make my own. Just easier that way to make sure there's no copyright infringements.

Although it is not good for model textures (ie. face etc) Texture Maker is what I use to make skin texture and such.

Also, a neat idea that I have always wanted to try to master, is to actually use real people's faces and such for textures. This method was used in Siren, the PS2 game with very strange and hypnotic effects!
