I want to buy a domain name for a website that showcases my artwork, such as computer renders, movie animations, flash animations, logos, things like that. I dont expect the size to go over 300 megabytes of space, but it will be very media intensive, at least 200mb. It will be a semi-professional showcase of my graphic arts to help me get jobs in the industry.

But I don't know which provider is who I want. Do any of you have experience in this field and would shout out some names that have been helpful in the past? Spefecially anyone who's owned a domain name, what provdier is best for me?

Sounds like your putting up a portfolio for all of us to enviously eye . If only I had the talent, time and money I'd do it too, but alas I suck at most things I take pride in
Yeah I agree with Nazca, hotsearch is good, but there heaps of resources on the net. Just don't get yourself stuck with webservice that won't let you or charge for making your own CGI (and no I don't mean computer graphics). You'll want to have the luxury of making your own scripts if you're going to pay for a domain.
Sorry if that didn't help and good luck,
Sina.

one and one are good, but your best bet is to go out and by an internet mag, a developer one would be even better.

.net, Internet Magasine are good and have loads of adds in the back for people want to find internet hosts.

get a cheap, say 30$ per year 2-3mb domain name and use a free tripod.com or simmilar site to host all your files. i have a totally free website provided by my isp (£9.99 pm) with unlimited space!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unfortuitously it has a .v-2-1.net suffix (boo hoo)

but if you host your files for free then its really worth doing.

yeh but most free providers only allow up to 250 or 500 kb's max upload... that just plain sucks... o_O and the bandwidth they give you is horrible...

lycos were offering .com/.net/.org/.co.uk/.uk.com/.info/.biz for like £8 at one point which is about the same - you get upto 1 plus unlimited subdomains free if you register an account or something - probably can find someone to do it for even less i guess
