does anybody know if any of the magazines are carrying SP2 in the UK?, windoze has been at it for nearly a week and just slipped back to 36%, at this rate it will be 3004 before it gets installed via slowdem, any mags carrying it? , I have seen commercial PC`s advertiseing as supplied with XPsp2 but it seems a bit extreme to buy a new PC to get SP2

As for being on a coverdisk - I dont know. You'll soon find out next month!

And as for the security holes that were left out - apparently they are rather minor. Microsoft are looking at them anyway.

I should think it will be on a mag. I got SP1 on the official Windows XP mag when it came out and so assume it will come out with that mag in next couple of months.

Last I checked MS said that SP2 won't be available in any other format other than Windows Update for a while, might've changed since then though.

The one that is downloadable now is mainly for people with loads of PC's. However, there is another download (via auto updates) that is far smaller and is optimised for use on single PC's.

On that note, has anyone downloaded the optimised one via uto-updates yet? I've had them on for some time now and it hsan't said that it's downloaded anything.

thats what I meant, it`s only on autoupdate for the mo, but there must be a version out there if people are selling new PeeCees with SP2 pre-installed for the lucky owners, so I can only hope that the mags carry the install for it (at the size it is it`s likley to be the DVD edition as well)

@EMP..I don`t know whats going on but my update has just dropped from 44% earlier on this afternoon to 40%, this is getting annoying, monday it was at 54%

my brother got sp2 and if you don't want 50 confirimation messages for downloading a picture then don't get it also if you host your own website don't get it cause it won't let anybbody connect to your pc directly and you must have confirmation for any program that uses the internet such as any messangers or media player playing streaming audio

Of course you have to do port configuration, it defaults with firewall on.

binary, that's just for the new updated firewall... You have to do that with all firewalls.

And to allow conection for people to access your site, if you host your own, then all you have to do is allow access to a specific port, and, voila!

Jess.

after seeing the article on the news this morning I have disabled auto-update , some firms are in a total mess with sp2, they can`t get half their software to work, files are disapearing all over the place etc, methinks I`ll pass untill the dust settles.

I've installed SP2 on 3 machines now - 2 home and 1 Pro.

No problems touch wood.

It's a great upgrade.

As for things 'not working' just unblock on yuor firewall. It's dead simple.

And if you're running a pc as a server without a firewall tehn you're in trouble.

The media will only publish horror stories and rumour.

'It worked fine for me' is not a headline
