One of the most annoying aspects of Doom3 for me is that you can hardly see most of the time. The idea is obviously to give atmosphere but mostly I find it just gives me a headache (because I have to keep squinting). Now given the way that things have gotten darker from Doom1 through to Doom 3 I think we can confidently predict that Doom4 will involve a totally black screen with, presumably, an incredibly small flashlight and loud noises of people going "BLAAAARRGGGH!" near you occasionally.

To save ID the effort of writing this game I have written it for them and the source code can be found attached.

Keys

Return - turn on flashlight
Control - turn off flashlight
Arrowkeys - move flashlight

However, you are wearing a very woolly hat and so cannot hear anything.

ADDITIONAL FEATURE

As an additional feature, using this programme demonstrates just how dusty your monitor screen really is.

Sweet... but why does my Pentium 6 ghz and new GeForce7FX-Super only run at 2 FPS? I know it only just meets the system requirements but I do have the nescessary 4096MB of RAM so it should still run at a reasonable rate! Please help!!

I find it runs very slowly on my computer. That's probably because of your use of the latest per-pixel lighting and realtime dynamic shadows simulation. This is the most realistic game I've ever played!

oh no! I need to upgrade , the scenes won`t render on my pc , I took a timelapse image of the screen and moved the torch all over it before releasing the shutter, but the scene hadn`t rendered, just a white screen (the audio did not work either...or maybe I didn`t find a monster)

I believe ID have said there wont be another Doom - and considering it spent 4 years on Doom 3, I wouldn't be surprised if that is indeed the case.

Carmack said he was dropping Doom for now; there was nothing officialy about there being another one or not. I find it likely they'll sell the licence to someone else, perhaps Raven when they're done with Quake 4 (though hopefuly they'll pick up Hexen III instead).

It'll be interesting seeing what they do with the all-new game they're working on.

Actually, I second the need for co-op mode, and I am incredibly pissed that doom 3 does not have co-op, and nobody frikken does co-op through the levels in FPS games. It sucks balls. So, for this reason I have reverse compiled doom 4, and added my own co-op mode. Catch me if you can phil, but you'll never find the true identity behind my hacker alias! Source attached!

You know what I'd love to see? A re-make of the Commander Keen Saga, in a 3D aventure-style format. THAT would be cool.

I want another fantasy-themed FPS . I can't get enough of 'em. Relatively mindless fun with an enviornment that soothes the brain. I can't see why Raven hasn't followed up on Hexen II alreadt, actually, seeing as how successful it and particular its expansion was (PoP got Avault's Seal of Excellence). id could do it nicely if they would just stop obsessing about demonic forces and nazis for once in their tired lives .

I liked Heretic II, it was a great action/adventure (though a little too slow at parts). But ultimatly I prefer Hexen's first person action shooting.

Then again, with that field already dominated by Doom III and Quake IV, nevermind the competitors, it'd probably be most strategic to make another adventure.

It's been too long since a good action/adventure came along infact... yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing Heretic III .

I'm just dissapointed Doom 4 doesn't utilize DBP's vector commands. Seems like Philip would have used them to me. That is probably the reason for the slow performance.

Doom 4 doesn't use DBPro's vector commands because of its custom built specialist nVidia 6800 approved high specificity polygon rendering engine: CRAPDRAW (tm) (r) (c) 2004 Picnic Basket Productions Ltd, All Rights Reserved.

CRAPDRAW is the world. CRAPDRAW is the future. You've probably even seen the commercials featuring well known actor, Michael Caine.

Rofl! Good luck!! 3D Realms has been working on Duke Nukem Forever for the past 10 years, can you imagine how long it'd take them to remake Commander Keen?

Sadly, I think the rights to Commander Keen were bought by John Romero's new company. I miss Commander Keen... JOHN SCREW THIS UP AND DIE!!

Wow - deus ex. Whenever I think of the great deus ex, I think of the shockingly bollocks deus ex 2 and its rediculous inability to work on my system with a frame rate above 0.5.

arggg...Dues Ex sucked...

i played it for hours...just to make one little mistake and the entire game was ruined...because everybody hated me...(well i was taking turns with a buddy on a XBox so it was part his fualt...)

anyway we made the people who own the hotel mad at us so the instant we came up the elevator to get what we needed...we had 10 guards blasting us to smithereens...

I don't think that's a problem. Just kill them if it's in the Ton hotel. I think you can kill everybody in there, no problem. In fact, I took pleasure in murdering the hotel managers daughter with a crowbar and dumping her corpse outside the entrance.
