Hi- I just played around with some of the height map stuff that some of you have put on the code page.

I was wondering, is it possible to take a photo of a face or an object and get a 3D height map made from it? The height map stuff I saw seems to make a multi-tile version in the 3d shape of a single tile bmp. I want to make a single tile (texture, not matrix/face) version of a single bmp that you can export as a model (x or dxf format preferably) into a modeling program to do some altering.

thanks
Alan

Yup, a lot of modelling packages let you import a heightmap, primarily aimed at terrain generation - but you could vert edit to your hearts content.

I know that Rhino3D has this feature, and the demo with 20 save limits should get you started. You should download that and have a play, see what you can come up with.

DeleD can do that too, with the Advanced Landscape plugin made by II Buzzo. I've been fooling around with and loaded a few photos in it without problems.

I downloaded the landscape plugin and installed it but I don't see it as an option anywhere in DeleD.

How do I use it?

The plugin should be available under the Plugin menu in DeleD. If not, then you might have an older version of DeleD and you should download the latest version (0.863).
