I think 3d max is a good software that have many options for users, but it's not really user friendly. Anyone know other software that's good as 3d max, but more user friendly? I'm thinking of trying milkshape 3d... let me know here your opinion.

i've used maya 4.5, 3d max 4, gamespace, 3d canvas, wings 3d, vr merlin, g max, most if not all have trial version download them for yourself and see what you like best, your better of trying them yourself then going by someone's word, it all depends on what kind of interface works best for you.

My friend who is working on models for me uses 3D Studio Max. Maybe, if you have deep pockets, check out Maya!

Not many people use 3DS Max/Maya around here because both programs cost well over 3000 dollars. Only a few lightwave users (1.5k) and a few more Rhino's (400)

Most use Milkshape or a free tool. Id guess 75% of those using 3ds max/maya pirated it. Thats just my opinion tho

I use MAX, but many times do my organic modeling with Animation Master. It is really nice to work with and I would not over look it for modeling and animating.

No, I most ceratainly cannot give that to you! First of all, its illegal, second of all I have a registered serial number which you cant use, and third, I cannot send you the whole Character Studio installation disk.

i'm using 3d max 3.0 and 3d max 4.0, i've also 3d max 6, but i need xp to make 3dmax 6 running, i'm on the old win98.
i found caligari's gamespace and truespace more compatible than 3dmax, with a simple animations made with 3dmax, like a boxy car with 4 wheels spinning, in dbpro the axis of animations are wrongs, in dbclassic are right.
Gamespace make animations fully compatible with .x models, listen to me, download or buy gamespace1.5, the light version is free, and the full is very cheap.

what about warez... you can't change the world banning people here.

Maybe they can't change the world here, but I'm sure the devs of TGC don't want their products illegally used, and neither would I. So they ban folk who talk of it.

I hate book. Book is stupid.

Yes I just -HAD- to say it

Seriously though, I have like 5 books all dedicated to game programming/modelling/texturing. When I first started DB/DBP I would always read the manual in my spare time (usually while I was taking a dump ) and I still read the manual every new program I get (if there is one)

The manual is really a wonderful thing to read if you want to know about the program. WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED!!

yes, of course, TGC policy is right.
But DBpro, DB, and all other stuff manufactured by the boys at TGC are very cheap.
I glady affort the bill to purchase one of their product.
What about a Maya at 199€?? or a 3dmax at 199€ for example? Yes, i will buy they. But they are over 3k€, and ligtwave is over 1.5k€.

there's a student version of 3dsmax which is way cheaper then the original one, problem is you can't use it for commercial stuff.

so here is no point to it if you can't use it for comercial stuff - might as well use gmax

or buy it

Use GMax?! Last time I looked its file formats were not compatible with anything, and due to licencing restrictions this wasn't about to change.

Student version of 3DS Max? Don't make me laugh. Every (and as a mature student I've looked into this) other firm licences their software for the duration of your course. Max's is for 18 months. Some executive somewhere had his head up his arse when thinking this one over.

'Make software cheaper and I'll buy it' argument.Oh dear. KAZAA++ doesn't support this argument...just take a look. The only thing that winds me up these days is the registering of software to obtain a number to unlock the software. If you could get that number 24-7-365, then yes fine. But all firms appear to be heading to only issuing numbers mon-fri 8 hours a day. They seem surprised when I return their software for a refund! Whinge over.

If you require a modeler/renderer that's as powerful as 3DS Max, you probably have the capital in place to afford the 3G's to buy it.

But making boxes? Houses? cars? That's like burning down your house to get rid of an ant-problem.

Effective but OVERKILL!
