Perhaps, if we lived in France. Good olde imperial miles here mate. And konky old British trains. And before anyone mentions it, konky new ones too. But not really bullet trains. Think they are french too. And if they come through the tunnel (damn big tunnel) then they have to slow down here thanks to seriously old lines.
Hmmm, perhaps so about the winds, but we've had some pretty strong winds here (100mph plus easy), and brick houses tend to stay up. Perhaps lose a slate from the roof, fence might come down, hell even lose a tree or two, but the house *doesn't* fall down, or even come close. Even the storm of 1987, which was probably the worst in the last couple of decades, killed a few people, injured that bloke from 'allo 'allo, took out everybodies fences, damaged some properties with some falling trees, but never did the actual houses look like they were going to fall down, not even slightly. I mean we are talking about cemented brick or stone here. The wind alone would not do it. If it flung a bulldozer at your house then expect some damage, but how many bulldozers do you have? Not enough to get the complete dustruction of every house for miles, as we always see after these hurricanes.
I watched a program a few years ago about this women in the US who lost her husband to a hurricane. So she built a house herself, designing it to safeguard against the wind. Yonks later as an old women another big one came along and she wouldn't budge from her house. Everything got totally flattened apart from her house, which lost two tiles from the roof or somesuch, but apart from that was totally ok. She was fine, and died a couple of months later. Job done. The program basically said how amazing it was that she was not touched. B***ocks! Every other building was now bits of wood flapping around in the wind, and her building was made of brick. Hmmm....
Yep, we drive on the right side of the ride. Which is the left obviously.
Cheers
Ps. Hmmm... it's actually getting quite galey out side at the minute (am visisting my parents in Anglesey - an island - where it gets quite breezy lets say). Perhaps the fence will fall down. Ho hum....
I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing
