Bah. Call me an extremist but I rarely give people code. I tell them how to go about solving things. Point them in the right direction.

Anyway one of the (best?) things I've had is somebody try to compile pseudocode. Great.

ps - Hawkeye you'll be pleased to know there's a driveable hovercraft in Merc 2

I take the opposite tack - give them the code and a little help and let them work it out themselves - if they cant then they are noobies...

What really makes me mad is when people try to defend these n00bs.

It's not just that he's a DB n00b, but he doesn't seem to understand directory paths either.

Uhm, heh I guess I was standing up a bit there... I guess I'm just that nice kind of person

@TCA: That doesseems to be the correct method. It started as a simple "use LOAD OBJECT()" thingee, but it kinda grew. Next time it'll be a simple "use this command" instead of a lengthy tutorial like that. It's just alot more efficient If they can't fiqure it out, then a little help, sure. But not an epistle

@David T: No, that can't be true. Someone was idiotic enough to try and compile p-code? Great, that's just what we need

Anyways, enough ranting!

I used to spend a lot of time helping out newbies, and whenever I have a bit of time I still do, but a lot of them are starting to p*ss me off with their attitude. However, most of them are still curteous (sp?) enough when you help them, and I just tend to ignore the other ones.

I will still help to a degree, but certain people have made a habit of getting me involved in some long-winded thing and then either disappearing, not caring, not saying thanks or whatever else. I help out alot less than I used to because of it. Powersoft/RichS comes to mind, altho I don't consider him a noob, and I will still talk with him on IRC - as far as help, I try to limit answers to a few words.

When you don't understand what directories are, you probably shouldn't be trying to program a computer game
