Good news all!

After some initial teething problems the DarkTOPIA beta has proven to be a great success.

Cattle took some screenies so hopefully we can persuade him to post them up here later.

yup- worked great- a few teething problems followed by a few minor bugs- but the main concept works, just missing a few features too, but it is just a beta

keep up with the good work

*hopes to join the 3d world building side of the team*

Sorry I missed it Cattle, I was cooking dinner for the family for most of it . It looks like you had a good time after the problems were solved. I'm extremely impressed.

It... it looks like silly putty. That's a compliment. I can't model silly putty. Or UV map it either.

You mean the arm looks like silly putty? Well, it kinda looks like it has hair on the back. Thanks for the apparent compliment though

Flibble, I love it! I cant wait until we start using real avatars instead of the temp cubes LOL.

Froogle, we are not looking official "team members" but you are very welcome to join the ever-growing list of official contributors. Mock up an enclosed world model and let me see. Something bigger than the Station, and by enclosed I mean by walls, not necessarily a cieling or sky - I kind of like the outter space feel of things

I guess the next public beta may be a couple of weeks away as Mnem is now on hols - leaving the load being carried entirely by Cattle and MikeS.

and Exeat too

next beta will be when registration is in place, and we work out some potential positioning problems. I will know more about that when I have the new world area from mike tonight to test with. The positional disjointing may be caused by the ability to click on weird back faces, as the world isnt enclosed currently

does registration mean that you have to create an account to use it ?

I'm not sure that's the best idea

When I want to have an answer to my questions, I want it to be easy and fast.
That is the reason why I don't registrer to 100 forums. If I have one question that would fit in a special forum and they say I have to create an account, then look for something else. Not because I'm lazy, but it's awfull to have so much subscription.

You'll probably only have to give a username and a password, and chose a model(but I don't know).

Its easy to put an object over the place you want to move to. Just project a vector to that place, get the X, Y and Z coordinates, and position the object there. Easy peasy.

yeah, I didnt implement that yet as I tend to scrutinize every little thing that gets processed in every loop - so since its not a major item its not currently in there, and may or may not be ultimately. Heavier weight must be given to TCP/IP message processing and all client positioning first, obviously. As time goes by and more gets ironed out I'll see about adding those type of bells-and-whistles if they are feasible.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Maybe I should go post that "what next" thing you asked about, Philip. Got caught with other issues yesterday and never got round to posting...
