hey all, im a learning game developer, working on a 3D RPG, and having some problems.

I use bryce 5 for landscape meshes, Poser 5 for character generation and animation, and use 3DS Max 5 as a general use modeler/editor, and program the game with DBC.

the main problem i seem to be having is that i cant get textures to load with the models once loaded in DBC and it doesnt matter if i am using 3DS format, or x format, i have read thru the forums and have added uv mappings to the models, and that isnt helping, im not really sure where the problem lies, if its something im doing wrong in the modelers, specifically 3DS max, or if its a problem when i export the models, i am using the panda pluging for the x files, and read on a post to make sure left hand axis is turned off, and seems towork better in text mode than in bianary.

so anyway i am looking for someone that has knowledge of at least DB and Max5, if not bryce and poser as well, and would perfer the ability to chat realtime via msn messenger or yahoo, if not the forum here will do.

many thanks to anyone that is willing to offer the help im seeking, it would be greatly appreciated

Did you load the image? As in Load Image "texture.bmp",1,1

Are your textures in the same folder as your model? For the X files it has to be in the same folder. If it is, then there could be a problem on where the location for textures is declared in the .X file. I saw a thread on this and how to change it in the forums, but couldn't find it again. Good luck. I'll keep searching for the thread.

yes the bmp's used for the textures are in the same folder as the model itself, and i just got quick 3d, and the textures are importing into quick3D with the models, just not sure why they wont when viewed in the DB model viewer, or when loaded via code

LOL i have a few other concerns as well when it comes to DB and loading 3D models but those i think im figuring out, that being alot to do with the scale of the model, and location in the world, because with these other problems i only run into them when i group a bunch of "zone" meshes to build the entire "world" landscape, but even so this i can figure out on my own, even if i have to load each individual "zone" seprately via code. but all in all, all my models dont seem to be retaining the textures in DB, be it landscapes or characters, walls etc.

open the .x file, scroll thru it until you find the texture name and location. Make sure the path says only "texture.jpg" and not "c:\some\folders\texture.jpg"

ok thats probably where the problem is jebus i opened the file in text format and didnt find anything but a zillion #'s nothing for a texture path, but then i opened it with quick 3D and went to file info and for the texture path it does list as D:\DarkBasic\media\models\test\volcan_.bmp, but now the question is how do i change that, would i change that right in Max 5 in the meterial editor or what?

sweet that was the problem jebus, it was that i had full path checked when i export the x file, once i turned that off and exported it again and tried it, it worked in DB model viewer and did have its texture, thanks a ton man!!!

you will all probably see me here making more posts as i run into other problems that i cant figure out on my own, im sure there will be a ton LOL
