Anyone hoping for a blog on this, purchase Ghost in the Shell.
That is the film which inspired 'The Matrix' as is without doubt one of the best stories told on film... until now.

Pure unadulterated class which neatly wraps around thr fragile framework of a simple question, 'what makes us human?'

This film is just like the original, it doesn't give you the answers but rather asks more questions.

It is by far one of the most pertinant sequels ever, and no doubt is going to also be one which will appeal to only a handful of people. Often a case will be that a sequel doesn't live up to an original, Innocence shows one thing.
There is such as originality more than once, with the same character, same question, same story... All that changes is the perspective.
Well age too. Heh

It definately delves deeper this time, every second of which makes the wait of 9years worth every drop of anticipation.

(i will show screenshots either when the website is fixxed or when i hook my dvd-ram back up.)

Isn´t Ghost in the Shell anime? Or is this a diferent Ghost in a Shell? By inspired by The Matrix, do you mean only the story or are there kick ass fight scenes?
You don´t have to answer my questions but please bear in mind what I have to do if you don´t answer. That is move my mouse up to the right hand corner, click, type in "Ghost in the Shell : Innocence" and press enter. That is alot of effort and I´d prefer not having to do it.

P.S Does this have anything to do with the Ghost in a Shell game that came out for PSX?

The Matrix's basic concept wasn't inspired by any particular thing. It was simply the most successful of a series of movies Hollywood churned about in the same time period about fake realities-- Dark City, The Thirteenth Floor, and The Matrix (I have a feeling I'm missing one).

And the basic question 'What makes us human' has been asked since cave men were beating on drums eons ago so I seriously doubt it's as original as all that

Well, there are a LOT of similarities between GitS and the Matrix.

@MIR: Yes, it is the anime Ghost in the Shell. By inspiring the Matrix, he meant in the framework of the story. The fight scenes in The Matrix were inspired by "wire walkers" kung-fu movies. These people had perfected the skill of walking on almost invisible wires, making it look like they are walking on air. The most famous of these (and also the most refined and well done) was Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Mouse, Ghost in the Shell was released in 1994; the Wachowski(sp?) Brothers have said that The Matrix has taken alot of influence from Animé particularly GitS.

Honestly I doubt you've seen the film, and if you did the story probably blanked you by. At 15 would really question, what exactly do you know about life enough to question it?
It is possible, but I would very much doubt you are the kind of kid who would appriciate what the story is trying to convey...

You would no doubt be better of watching the Stand Alone Complex Series, something more to your tastes and attention span.
Ghost in the Shell is argueably one of the most definitive Science Fiction films, along with Space Oddessy 2001 and Abyss.

@Raven

"Honestly I doubt you've seen the film, and if you did the story probably blanked you by. At 15 would really question, what exactly do you know about life enough to question it?"

Raven, why are you being such an arrogant a$$? Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they aren't intelligent or haven't asked the same questions you have. And Mouse is right. The question of what makes us tick is not anything new. GitS didn't start it.

If anything, Philp K Dick "started" it with "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". Which inspired the #1 Sci-Fi film of all time, Blade Runner.

Here is some food for thought:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/08/26/entertainment/main638645.shtml

Quote: " A newspaper survey of top scientists has chosen "Blade Runner" as the world's best science fiction film.

The 1982 movie was the favorite when 60 scientists were questioned by The Guardian, including evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins and Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker, the newspaper said Wednesday. "

Quote: ""It was so far ahead of its time and the whole premise of the story — what is it to be human and who are we, where we come from. It's the age-old questions,""

Oh, and FYI, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" was written in 1968. Blade Runner came out in 1982.

GitS wasn't the first nor will it be the last to ask these questions. That doesn't mean it isn't a good movie. I enjoyed it and think it is an excellent movie. But it's not that original. Philip K. Dick was asking these questions probably long before the creator of the GitS series was even born.

Oh wow, let me put on my big surprised face.
Nevermind I don't want to waste the energy.

You want to discuss the film, and if Mouse wants to then fine.
I'm willing to discuss anyone else's view on the film.

Problem is, you don't have a view do you? No instead you have the itch to try and show up Raven. As far as calling me arrogant here is extremely amusing... would you like to know why?

Perhaps because the question wasn't important. It never was.
When you understand, then I'll discuss the film.

If you want to understand, watch: The Matrix, Patlabour, Akira and Abyss.
If you would like a clue, I am a deeply religious man.

The real arrogance here is you believing you can sit there and post an arugment of that nature, go read the bible. The question has been around since before the written word, but as I said.
The question was never what was important.

Neophyte beat me to it with pointing out Philip K Dick. I'm not even going to bother wasting the time explaining the irony of you saying that at the target age for formulaic anime films that are nothing but cheap rehashes of live action films and novels written far better before the whole anime fad got started, it's going by me. Have a nice day.

Funny, I thought Matrix was originally a comic. Quit making crap up.

I've been waiting for this to come out forever. So you mean it's out now? I own the first one, a great friggin movie. Definately something you need watch fully awake, probably more than once to fully understand it.

And I do believe the Wachowski brothers did say ghost in the shell influenced the Matrix.

Anyway, if this movie is indeed out now, I'm gonna buy it tomorrow.

@Raven

"Problem is, you don't have a view do you?"

I have a view on the first film. As I stated before, my view is that it is an excellent film, but not ground-breakingly original.

"No instead you have the itch to try and show up Raven."

If you thought the above was trying to show you up, I've been going far too easy on you. The only thing I did was point out how arrogant and elitist you are being by saying that Mouse isn't old enough to understand the film.

"Perhaps because the question wasn't important. It never was."

Then why did you say this about the film's plot?:
Quote: "Pure unadulterated class which neatly wraps around thr fragile framework of a simple question, 'what makes us human?'
"

Sounds like that question is central to the entire plot. At least according to you. You know you are never more amusing when you blantantly contradict yourself.

"The real arrogance here is you believing you can sit there and post an arugment of that nature,"

What argument? Point out where in my previous post I made any "argument". The only thing I said that could be construed as an argument is that "What makes us human?" is an age-old question. Notice in one of the paragraphs I quoted I highlighted in bold "what is it to be human and who are we, where we come from. It's the age-old questions".

But apparently you appear to be agreeing with me in this when you said:
Quote: "The question has been around since before the written word,"

So why are you arguing with me about it if we agree? You know sometimes you seem real schitzo Raven.

Holy hell. I haven't posted here in around a week. I think now, it's going to be a lot longer.

You know I saw Lagmaster's post about one of the new mods he isn't happy with, and I really gotta agree. This post just proves it.

Well uh, sorry for being negative, not sorry for being realistic; that's that and I'm out.

I have not seen Ghost in the Shell the first one yet, but heard it was cool(Should see that before the the seconed one). Seen Akira, which was pretty cool and some other interesting ones. Right now I am waiting for FF advent children. Seen the trailer a couple of times and can't wait till its release here in North America.

They probably don't want to risk it after how the first one bombed. Don't want the Japanese movie studio suffering from USA sales losses -- probably a good move on their part. Video game crossovers aren't doing too well...

Aside from this Friday's Resident Evil release--- it will rock. It probably will suck (as most sequels do), but the trailers seem to contradict that.

Anyone notice how poetic Raven's last post was. I mean look at the formation of it. Wow, he's a pile of fruit.
