I think CattleRustler should organize a US DarkBasic Convention

I'd volunteer if I was older and could drive and all that good stuff...

I'd go if I could drive... or drink either one...

But you should get it telivised! That'd be kinda neat, not to mention free publicity for TGC.

CattleRustler lives in New York. I live in Arizona, so that'd be over 2500 miles for me to drive (no thanks. I'd only go if I could fly there.) I'm old enough to go to something like that, but I don't have enough money to fly to New York.

That's why I'm having US DBP Con III in my basement in Utah, next year.

See you there!

How about we go and party all over the UAT in Phoenix? The igda chapter's into all that social stuff here. Before they plan any meetings they plan hikes and dances and barbecues.

plus it would be too expensive to host anything in new york. Maybe we could have it Amish country, or in Jimmy's basement like he said, and I agree that it would need to be next year sometime.

8Bit Revolution + Ilya + Phaelanx + MikeS = 4 Ohio DB'ers

We need to have a convention in Ohio one of these days. New York to Ohio isn't too far(1 day drive?), then CR could visit. If I had more $$$, I'd be more than willing to setup something (And I'd fly Hypricther in).

Isn't Asheron or someone from LLRGT organizing one? We were discussing it in a thread over there (probably going to be somewhere around PA since there are a lot of members who live in PA, or near it).

Cheers,

There are always discussions, problem is that there really isn't a large group of people in a single area to make it worth it without large cash backings to set everything up without risk.

(Hense why only GuyS has been able to do it so far)

I think you need it in a state where the legalities are the same as the UK... because with a small number of people it's gonna really be more just a get together to get slaughtered.

or maybe i've been back in the UK too long hehee
well i should be back state-side sometime just after christmas, visting South California, North Arizona, South Texas and erm, well i think it's Virginia ... West i believe but i can't remember.

i'd say try to plan this for next spring, cause of that spring break thing, most ppl will be off then right?

The thing is, the US is so big compared to the UK That post I made asking if there were any Northeastern US DarkBasic coders sort of helps, I mean even if someone lived in Maine and has to drive to Ohio, it won't be more than a one day thing. But it would definitely be cool to organize one, but I would probably end up not going (I don't think anyone in my family is up to driving me across PA, unless we did it sometime during the summer and my sister was on vacation from college).

If you all came to my house, I could host it for free We'd only have 3 computers to use though

But seriously, holding somewhere in PA is actually cheap. All you need to do is choose a medium sized city with a hotel or something we could hold it in.

Raven, spring break is most likely a good time, but I doubt this will get out of the planning stages. Unless there is someone who is trustworthy and respected who feels like organizing it beyond this post...

central location + cheap = good

Virginia is close enough to PA buddy.

Besides, if there is a convention, the host is going to do what's convienent for them. I'm just hoping there's someone in PA/OH who might give things a little jump start.

PA is NOT central, WTJ ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??

OH would be my choice, but I wouldn't go anyway. No reason to be around a bunch of losers who think PA is a central location in the US!!

Man....PA....is....New England. Maybe not New England but right on the border like NY is. We should all go down to Florida, get caught in a hurricane, and go to Disney World. Better yet! DB trip to Disneyland! Yeah, right next to AZ....heh heh.

Texas is the most central suggestion I've read.

I like the Ohio idea, considering I'm just a short ride away from ohio... Gotta love Cedar Point... anywho...

again, if I were older... and could drive... I would go...

Ohio sounds nice, you can put me as an ohio-in, since I'm not too far away... Just north...

I'm right in the middle of central Columbus.

I'd vote for somewhere in the Northeast region (seeing I'm in Massachusetts) so PA or OH would be fine. If it's close enough and the timing's right I'll go.

Virginia isnt far from PA, or Ohio. Here's a small travel schedule:

1. Drive on Day 1, stay in a motel overnight
2. Convention, for however long. Stay in a hotel/motel accordingly.
3. Drive home.

I replied in the sticky post where I mentioned Ohio because I have several excuses to visit (family, friends, Origins '05)

However, I also have family in Tucson so a Phoenix, AZ location would not be a particular burden.

Honestly, my son and I like to take road trips, so any part of the continent is really not a problem. I here Utah is scenic in the summer time, I'm not sure about Jimmy's basement.

Oh yeah, Oklahoma City is nice and centrally located. (Yeah right.) Oklahoma has three DB coders that I know of.

I wish I could see the other forum, I don't know what has been discussed logistically. I've seen the IGDA mentioned above, they would be a fantasic resource to tap into since they're already organized and probably have access to places with lots of electrical outlets.

Unfortunately, the nearest chapter is in Dallas (although they do get things like sw.ank invites to nVidia launch events.)

Stolen from the IGDA site:

Phoenix IGDA BBQ Extravaganza!
2004.07.10 03:30:52
As mentioned on the forums, Saturday July 10th is to be a barbecue and social gathering of massive proportions. Beginning with hiking at 9:00 AM, barbecue, volleyball, swimming, and more will follow at 3:30 PM, and swing dancing will top it all off at 9:00 PM. Details are available on the calendar. We hope to see everyone there!

Sweet! I can bring along my zoot suit. [No, I'm not making that up.] But, it would be a bear to attend meetings on a regular basis.

Most small towns and suburbs have town hall sized facilities that can be secured for a reasonable fee. I have no idea what reasonable is for PA and other locations. But, here is the community center rate sheet for Midwest City (a suburb of OKC) as an example. At a minimum, attendence fees would have to cover the cost of setting up something like that. So, some type of head count or pre-registration would be required to determine the needed space.

http://www.midwestcityok.org/ccratesheet.htm

No, I am not volunteering for anything. Just trying to spark some thoughts on the subject besides light banter.

[edit for typos and silliness]

Sw.ank is a forbidden word? Must be a Brit thing. In the states it means showy or stylish, almost gaudy to the point of being obstentatious.
