I know it must be a pain to answer these questions but I am really stuck.

I went through most the milkshape tutorials fine and have made a human model. He isn't perfect, but, being my first model I am still proud. Now I want to texture him.

I have a free copy of LithUnwrap, thanks to a forum member. And I loaded up the file, selected my groups and made a nice handy map which I could then start painting.

I resaved the object (to save the UV coordinates) and saved the uv map. I wanted to check it out in milkshape, so I loaded back up my model. Created a new material called 'skin' and loaded in the first slot my uv map. I set the emmissive to a dark grey color (as suggested by the tutorial). I selected all of the faces on the model and hit the assign button.

Nothing happened. Checked again, to make sure I had it in texture view mode not just smooth shaded view mode. Nothing. Remained the same.

To make sure I hadn't improperly saved I reloaded the file in LithUnwrap. The UV map was intact and when I applied the material in LithUnwrap, the preview displayed it fine.

I understand that it would probably work in DBPro, but I am just asking, did I miss something? The tutorials seem to tell me nothing else. The help files I downloaded also have nothing more to reveal. I can e-mail the file/UVmap to anyone willing to see what I have to do... if that would help? Or perhaps someone knows from my description what I have done wrong...

I don't like to bother people with errors as often I can solve the problem myself. I have only had milkshape for about a week and I don't know what else to do. I am using the latest version (1.7.1) and my product IS unregistered (going to buy it when it runs out).

Could it be a bug of the new version. Could it be LithUnwrap? My LithUnwrap has worked on DBPro before with any Wings3D models I had made so I really don't know where to go now...

As you can see from my ramblings I really have no clue why this is happening or how to fix it.

Thank you in advance for any help. I guess my model will have to just remain skinnless for the time being...

Heres my steps, just what I do

oMake a new material in LithUnwrap
oMake it a 'checker' texture
oUnwrap all limbs of the object
oMake sure SELECT is on FACE
oUnhide all
oSelect ALL
oRight click material > Assign
oRight Click one of the highlighted UVs (all should remain highlighted) Choose Select Material - Choose the one you made earlier with the checkered texture
oSelect all
oFile > Model > Save
oFile > UV Map > Save > Color/Fill
oIn MS3D Open the new exported model
oUnder the Textures tab click on the first box with the material name in it, find the texture on your PC
oThe sphere should now have your texture on it
oRight click 3D Window
oChoose textured

Thats just a quick snippet of how I do it.

Hmmm... seems similar to my approach.

See I figure I must have gotten the whole LithUnwrap section correct because it displays fine in LithUnwrap.

Let me detailedly explain my steps and tell if I am missing something.

-Load model in milkshape
-Click on materials tab
-make a new material
-rename it 'skin'
-Click on the first bar where it says <none>
-Choose my texture
-Put Select Face on
-Select all Faces
-Click Assign Faces
-right click window and choose textured to view in

Did I miss something, do something wrong?

Again I figured the first part I got right because the map works fine when I reload it in LithUnwrap.

Ah, I found my problem.

Apparently you can only select groups to apply materials to... this is unsettling because the tutorial I took told me that you could select the faces within a group to achieve the same task...

But, nonetheless it is fixed.
