Hi there,

I'm trying to learn Truespace 3.2 and I'm having a problem I can't solve. When I make a primitive into an object and apply my own custom texture, the model looks just fine. But if I load any object that has already been textured, and try to paint a new texture on it, it just comes out one solid color.

Can anyone help me understand why?

Thanks in adavnce.

Thank you ALPHA ZERO PRODUCTIONS, that's what I was thinking. But if I can't even get textures to work in Truespace 3.2, is it going to be woth it for me to buy, say Truespace 6? What's my guarantee that I'll be able to do what I want with a better Truespace?

And I'm very concerned about the myriad of bugs in 3.2. Unfortunately the Truespace interface is the only one I've been able to stand so far. Anim8or seems good, but I can't get past the nasty interface. 3D Canvas just made me mad, talk about un-intuitive. At least with Truespace I can logically work through what to do next (sometimes).

BTW, I need a function like the 'smoothing' in Anim8or or the Thermoclay plug-in for TS 3.2. Anyone know which modellers are best at this sort of thing? Making the basic shape out of primitives, then running a smoothing algorithm to make the shape look organic?

Thanks.

Does the solid color match like the pixel in the corner? If so, your UV coordinates might be getting clobbered.

If you want, send the file + texture to me via e-mail and I'll test it out and see what I can find.

Yes in fact the solid color does match the pixel in the corner. UV clobbering seems the most likely cause of the problem.

I appreciate the offer zircher, but ALL models not made by me, whether downloaded, contributed by others, or made by me in a different program are having this problem. I'm sure there's a trick to it, I just have to find it. Importing .3ds, .x, .obj, .lwo, all have the same problem. Everything except a .cob file made specifically with Truespace 3.2.

I can't figure out how to get existing textures "off" a model or how to reset the texture UV in TS 3.2. I watched a video demo of TS 5 and it took about 10 seconds to remove an existing material and apply a new one with new UV values. I wish I could figure out how to do it in TS 3.2 -sigh-

It sounds to me like the models your importing have no UV data, you should get hold of Lithunwrap, which is free, and load your model into that - it's a pretty decent UV mapper, and it'll even tell you if your model has no uv data.

If you imagine that all the UV coordinates are at 0,0 - so they're grabbing one tiny little bit of the texture, not even a full pixel, but the colour of that 1 pixel at 0,0 is repeated over the whole object because that's how the UV data has ended up.

But I'd say you should get hold of Milkshape or something, Truespace is not really ideal for game modelling, it's not great for texturing or low poly, Milkshape is much easier to use as well.
