Hi there.

Although this is a fairly new forum account I was around back when DB got started. I miss some of the oldbies, I was wondering if some of you have new names. I used to be just "Orgull". I see indi is still around, what about Magellan, MattMan, crap I can't remember any more names right now, I must be getting old.

Anyone been around since the beginning want to say hello?

Alright. I started in July 2000 if I remember correctly. Indi started either the week before or after me, so you may remember me too! Saying that I have a memory like a fish, so I have no memory of you. Sorry

I was the bloke who liked to go on about Codez BTW. You know 1243523533B is a small green tank. Not to be mistaken for the medium green tank (134553353C). Although it can use 180 degrees of movement on the gun. etc. I used to drink more then....

I think I caught on at about DBC 1.6 - when you had a 500 save limit on the trial - lasted ages before I finally managed to order a copy.

There's actually more oldbies still around than I thought there would be a couple of years ago, in the space of a few months a lot of old faces disapeared.

Hmmm. Did you leave a *long* time ago? Name seems to ring a bell... did you have website at the time? Basically I noted down all the ones listed and bunged the links on my website. Unfortuantly I update my website about once a millenium these days (loads of work....) so will still be there too.

So what have you been upto? Personally I totally dropped out of the scene when work exploded after 911 (travel industry and IT), and had no time for anything but work. Kept up with DBC for a bit after that, but gave up waiting for DBP. Bought DBP on the day of release, but never used it (apart from writing some VB DLLs for Hubdule's stuff) properly. Must get back to it....... Went back to the forums just for yapping though. I like the community...

I joined the community in very late '99 and became an active member around 2000. Magellan's still around here. Mattman, unless I'm remembering wrong, has only been around for a year or so.

Some oldbies still visit, some don't. As nice as this community is, I miss a lot of the old regulars .

Yeah, I was the same. I was into DIV at the time, and basically owned DB, but didn't want to use the forum because I was happy with DIV's (and I didn't want to be spotted as a DB traitor, as I like to use "dazzag"). Then totally converted and left DIV in the dust. Made my first post on their forum in like 3 years the other day. They are seriously bitter now waiting for DIV-DX (works in windows XP). They get like a proper update of the worklog around once every 3 months now. Hell, I was waiting for a non 9X DIV back in 2001.

Heh, I remember my first post was a question on how to roll a ball convincingly. Dr Av gave me the code for that one. Except one line was cunningly wrong I found out, and I had to fix it. I reckon it was to make sure I wouldn't just copy it, and had to understand it at least a bit. His game was also a ball game (like Marble madness). The demo was pretty good. Haven't seen him in a while though (Blitz - Which I own too, but never really got into).

I joined some forums under a diferent name back when dbc 1.08 was out and dbc 1.13 had popped up. I didnt really get too much into db then and wasnt on the forums much at all - then when pro came along I joined these forums and became the menace I am today my screen name back then was Tek4_DB. I dont remember having any fights with anyone except Guy Savoie briefly. Lol, oh well.

Yes Dazzag, I left about the time DBPro came out, ages ago... I got tired of trying to build my world editor with primitives, and there was no .bps loading or anything. Man I remember before there were static objects and I had to keep my objects down to 20 or less in view at any given time. Those were the days.

I had a website "fuhringerstudios.com" but I let it die. I was big on a technique I wrote some tutorials on called "forced timing", seems in the intervening years everyone has adopted it for their own, which pleases me greatly. I was also big on complaining about people posting every second post about how DB couldn't make a commercially viable product.

I think things have really improved while I was gone IMHO.

Wow, I remember Guy Savoie... is he still around and the same as ever?

Unfortunatly, no he's not. He started Real Game Tools as the American distributor for DBP, but something went wrong about a year down the line; the company folded and he left the community. I hope he's doing alright.

I first heard abotu DB from a DIV newsletter. I remember the feature now.

Rings a bell... I always used to go on about split screen coding quite a bit if I remember rightly, plus fast collision detection routines. Those were the days. Oh, and good old md2 and quake 3 level loading (long winded methods I seem to recall). Good times..... must find some extra time....

I got into DB when the demo was featured on the June 2001 demo CD of PC Active, I never joined the forums though because back then I didn't even know what a Forum was. lol.

I've been using DarkBASIC ever since that PCGamer demo, years ago. I joined the forums like, a few months ago though. Anywho, that was a good issue of PCG. Lemme see if I can find the demo...

I got DBC demo from a CD that came with a book, on game design, trying to keep coding skills up to par, apparently it had NO code in it, in any language. Good read tho.

I found db late 99/early 2000 not sure the exact time. I think it was the first time db made it onto a magazine cover disk because it didn’t get a mention on the disks listing, and only had a tiny text box in the mag.

Made my first post as _Zippy_ sometime in 2000 and have had numerous names since. Never liked any of them lol. Never really got to know anyone on the boards as I don’t post that much, but I’m an old fart all the same.

I was "here" (in the DB world) during the disapearing forum thing that got me using the American forums when DB didn`t maintain theirs and shut it down for ages, I was Hobbyman back then, but I have been Mentor for ages (had a brief spell as Digitus Maximus when I was feeling like a change but it was too much typing )

Mentor.

PC1: P4 3ghz, 1gig mem, 3x160gig hd`s, Radeon 9800pro w cooler (3rd gfx card), 6 way speakers.
PC2: AMD 2ghz, 512mb ram, FX5200 ultra, 16 bit SB.
Mini ATX cases suck.

Wow time flies. If I remember correctly I bought DBC in the summer of sixty nine... erm I mean 2000. Version 1.06, I think. I wasn't a very active forum member back then, though.

also soon i will use my brother's logo "Hellmuth Arts" he is in california at Biola(artsy college) studing...well i guess you could call it a "film" major though i forgot the real name...he's made several movies for local film festavels(sic) and ...ect ...ect

so soon i will have nothing to do with the word Magellan...then no more confusion
