This is a BASIC recreation written in java. But not just any version of basic, it\'s TRS-80 Level 1 BASIC!

First out in August of 1977 on the TRS-80 Model 1. This is pretty much THE first general public computer, and thus, the first generally available version of BASIC.

The cut down version sold for 399 USD, while the full blown model with a monitor and floppy drives sold for 599 USD.

Now you all can see what them real oldbies had to work with, about two dozen commands with sloppy error checking. Poor code structure, (no DO/LOOP, to loop, you needed to use a GOTO command, numbered lines), one letter variables, one array variable and two string variables. What a headache^_^

I\'ll release a game tomorrow for you all to enjoy Have fun!

Here you go, as I promised, teh 1337 game ever

How to run it?

Hop on over to http://www.vavasour.ca/jeff/level1/simulator.html

Click on the "Open Program Window" button. Copy and paste the program in the window. Hit "apply"

The prompt will say "Ready >" Type Run and hit enter. Have fun

[edit] ahh found a bug... do not copy/paste from the source window. Or if your really set on it.. to patch the program, after hitting "apply", at the ready prompt, type

515 PAUSE 5000

then type "Run"
[/edit]
