Yay, compo is now over! You can now download my entry from my website ( http://www.dbhut.com ). It's less than a megabyte so there is no excuse not to download it.

It's a remake of a 1983 ZX Spectrum game from Incentive Software.

Written using V5.5 of DBPro, it's a 2D maze game where the maze
moves around you and simply have to survive. Get a good score and
you can sync with Top 50 chart stored on my website.

I have even included a real Spectrum low-res graphics mode for
real authenticity!

Please let me know what you think.

Wow, that's fun and addictive!

I can't say how it plays compared to the original as I haven't played ( nor have any desire to ), but it's smooth, has the retro feel about it, and doesn't lack anything in the way of game play

Good job, and good luck in the compo

Jess.

PS I have the high-score

Thanks for the comments! If you use the 'sync' option on main menu your high score will upload to server and then get downloaded to everyone else next time they 'sync. At the moment your high score is only held on your pc. According to me the current high score is by TCK.

Just downloaded your game TCA and it still kills my pc when you quit out of it. Thought you would have fixed that from the beta version. I'm sure the judges of the compo are not going to enjoy their pc's locking up!

Didn't know it was still on my web site. I had no problems exiting on mine, so I didn't do much there... Pressing ESC and the keyboard entry speed were two problems I never bothered fixing.

Copied from LLRGT for those that don't visit

Heh that was pretty fun Spooky.

Can't say I remember the original Speccy game but it certainly felt like an early 80's game......simple and frustrating but addictive gameplay. It's painful though......after a couple of games my fingers couldn't cope with the faster levels.

The only thing I'd maybe have liked would be a "modern" version with better graphics and smoother scrolling which I think would make it far more playable.

Great remake though......best of luck.

I'm downloading now. Can I get you to download my game - Still No Escape? Yeah, I know, shameless self promotion. As I'm sure you are, I'm eager to get some feedback from some fellow competitors.

EDIT

I've just finished playing your game. I've never played the original, but this game is pretty addictive. I didn't do all that well, only got 200 points. I'm sure the high score is quite a bit higher than that.

Give this game a chance and it becomes very addictive. I managed level 3 so far and it’s getting hectic already!

I found myself ridged with concentration until the last man was lost. I’ll defiantly play this game again.

Nice work and good luck with the competition

Based on Amiga PD game Squigs. Currently being re-written.

Hey! I just sync'ed up the scores and I'm number 13. I'm hoping Stompy used the cheat code to get to level 14. I'll feel better about myself if he did.

@TheSquid - Nope. Stompy is an expert! Using the cheat mode disables you getting on high score anyway!

If you use the cheat code you get this message:

Well done Peter_ ! I have been watching your score rise over last couple of weeks. Still a long way to go though.

Here's a few tips to give you better scores. Make sure that when you finish a level, Zippy is bang in the middle of a level, ie. where next level begins. This gives you a double bonus. Also the bonus is based upon how many lives you have left and how much stuff you have eaten. A few extra points can be found by finding the hidden grass.

I could have made controls easier by allowing diagnals or allow changing direction whislt going in another, but that made game far too easy, so I made it same as Spectrum original.

Still can't believe I won two prizes in the compo. Hope I get them before Christmas.
