heyy, my dad just told me about 3d mark 05 is out now. so i downloaded it and install it to find out that i aparently need direct x 9.0c(witch i thought i already had) so after installing 3d mark i installed direct x 9.0c again... it still says its version 9.0b. i tried 3 times without any luck and the same thing is happening on my dads comp.

has anyone else had this problem?

does anyone know how to solve it?

all my other programs that need 9.0c still run even tho it says 9.0b in the 'dxdiag'. seams 3d mark 05 wont let you run it unless it says 9.0c in the dxdiag

hmm..

it wont let me run it becuase it says i dont have direct 9.0c WHEN I DO. i installed it 3 times to make sure

i have the latest nvidia drivers 66.77

my dad has the same drivers as you...

WHY WONT IT WORK????

[edit] it seams that the reason i cant install version 9.0c is that i had a beta version of direct x before.. it says i need to clean it up, but doesnt tell me how

DirectX 9.0c will install fine over a Beta version; that said i very very much doubt you have a Beta version, SDK maybe.

2005 is great, it does step forward for just the next generation cards. my card got a respectable 6,830 according to my brother, so i'm quite chuffed with it.

It looks damn great too.
Oh also, there is no 66.77; atleast nothing the public should have thier hands on. Last released version was 61.77; 66.23 is the current developer beta. (which isn't leaked) the current lasted leaked one is 66.33, but it'll kill off systems.
nvidia have some new anti-leak stuff being tested out; believe me it does royaly screw up your cards making them worthless for DirectX.

Somebody wanna tell me what kind of computers you ppl are running? I just ran the demo with the default options and only got a score of 733. I don't think any scene hit above 4fps. And I ran this on a P4 2.8e with an FX5900 card.

I want to get DX 9.0c, but I hear horror stories about the service pack 2, my friend says he had to reformatt 3 times to reverse the damage caused. Hopefully it will show up as a stand alone install.

Guns arnt the problem, people are the problems, shoot all the people and guns arnt a problems anymore.

I was going to download Mark 5 but I noticed that minimum specs were 512 meg memory, and I only have 256 meg.

I had a go at Mark 05, but only got 2068 points. I'd have thought I would have gotten a better score, going by my graphics card:

GPU: GeForce 6800 (at 390/845)
CPU: Intel Celeron 2.4 GH
MoBo: M266a (from ASRock, I don't know if this affects performance, but meh!)

NB. My motherboard only goes up to 4x AGP. Does that affect performance much?

Shouldn't I be getting a better score?

got some more tests as far as this Linux based OS is conserned as well as how much further we can take it.

hehe nope, i've gone all japanese microsoft
might bring back the dancing kitty though, i know how ever one loved it so ^_^

and ya i know the ram latency i have isn't the best, but the throughput on my ram is about 20-30% more than the highest speed Corsair.

the slower Hyper-X can actually go alot quicker but i like being able to transfer to my bandwidth limit

But I have a good graphics card! GeForce 6800! The weird thing is that I get such a rubbish score. I'm guessing that my processor has something to do with this rubbishness; 2.4 Gh celeron.

Also, I only have an AGP 4x port. Will either of these two factors have much to do with my bad score?

It's 3D Mark 05 and it's still 04. Of course this years cards are going to get low fps and scores otherwise what use would it be for benchmarking and showing off 05 cards?

mmmm, I wonder...

Would upgrading to a 64-bit processor be worth it? Would I have to buy a 64-bit version of windows, or could I just use the regular home-XP 32bit? Does 32-bit proggies still run in 64-bit?

EDIT:
I've found an Athlon 64 3200+ for £140, and a pentium 4 530 (3Gh with hyperthreading) for £120. Does anyone have any insight as to which is better than the other?

the AMD processor is clearly the better of the 2.. not only is it slightly faster but it also will run the 64bit programms of the future(there are few now actualy..) and AMD get higher scores in all the tests i seen

Right, sorted. Maybe 64-bit will be a good choice later on, but at the moment it doesn't seem worth it. I found out that my motherboard has a 478 processor port, and I also found a "Pentium 4E 3.2 1MB S478" processor for £150. What does this "E" mean? Also, are there many advantages to upgrading to a 775 processor port motherboard and getting a processor for that?

probly 'Ex' since none of the intel processors seam to match up to amd in speed or reliablity.

nah, realy it stands for 'Extreme edition' but from what i've seen its not actualy worth the £30 more.

i still say if you can afford it to that you take the 64bit route. it means your have to spend less on a upgrade in the future.

hmmm, how much does windows 64-bit cost? If it's quite a bit, then it'll probably be better for me to just spend the money on a better CPU (still 32-bit). If I understand it right, 32-bit applications don't run any faster on a 64-bit CPU.

Also, it says that the pentium has a front side bus of 800Mh, but I think my motherboard only goes up to 400Mh.

Oh well, it seems that I'll have to get a new motherboard anyway.

NB. Is the 775 processor port any faster than the 478 one?
