Hey all,

I've started this project rather late, and have been getting a little bit nervous after seeing a few other's games. Anyways, one can't win if one doesn't even enter, so I'm putting my all into this game.

It's called Gang Wars of New Canada, and takes place in the future land of New Canada. Different countries are battling to take over the territory, including Canada of course, in their little weirdly shaped weapons storage containers.

It has a humorous slant, and will take into account the original Scorched Earth gameplay style (hopefully).

Here's one screen which shows 5 players:

Here's another showing the UK's weapon hurtling overhead:

I'm missing quite a few things so far, including a way to "paintbucket" the terrain. I'll keep this thread updated from time to time and submit a demo product for download shortly.

Thanks,

- Jeku

nice game you got there. ^_^ Hope to see a demo soon.

I'm even more nervous, cuz my scorched earth clone is probably worse than yours.

@Final Epsilon - Thanks for the good words

@Peter X - Hehe about the background image, I just stole it from my Windows folder. I don't know about the post of which you speak.

The best way of doing what you want is with memblocks.

Make the background image a memblock then set all the pixels that have been destroyed to you're transparency color (like pink) then make it back into an image.

It's easier if you have a solid color on the background. You may need to do that if memblocks are too slow.

well i agree with the memblocks (i'm using them myself) but one problem i ran into is this..

when you set a pixel to the transparent color...it doesn't make it transparent...

BECAUSE when you load an image it finds all the pixels that are the current transparent color and sets their alpha to 0(out of 255)

so if you want to set it to transparent you have to set the alpha of each pixel(instead of the color)

if you need help then just tell me so...because i had to do this in my game

"paintbucket" your terrain? do you mean, you want to fill the area under this thin line with color? if so, why not only draw lines from this waving line to the bottom of the screen.

PS: nice banner you've got there

Drawing 800 lines per frame was making the game run waaaaaay too slow Spooky told me that the BOX command is hundreds of times faster than the line command, and he's right! The problem has been solved

Thank you very much A really nice guy designed it for free for me

Are you going through to the back picture or just getting a block colour?
