or

Here's the poll question & options..

Neo:

Thanks for the feedback.. I think that's a browser issue,as it's tiny in IE, and chunky in Firefox.

Rich:

So what would you do to improve it ?

Quote: "chunky in Firefox"

that means the CSS is wrong or something

i like it personally, although i think you should get rid of the block'o'dots at the top of the page, under the header

All comments relate to Firefox, because it's the only browser I use (through choice)

* The big patch of dotted grid lines isn't really needed, it takes up 80 pixels in height and serves no immediate purpose. Perhaps reduce down to just 1 layer (like you have under-neath the "Welcome on-board" message) to keep it consistent.

* Fonts change size all over the place. The welcome text looks like a 14px height, the rest of the body text is a very tiny 10px or maybe even less. This is just a simple CSS thing I am sure, so should be quick to fix.

* Copyright 2002 to me that always makes me think the site hasn't been updated since the year the copyright was set.

* Line things up in the left column more, for example when viewing a page there are different styles in the same block - the "More About" text is big and spaced out, the UL list below it with a totally different line-height to the Awards block immediately above it.

That's about it really, the design is nice and still holds up well today, it just needs a little spring-cleaning to make things more consistent.

Cheers,

Rich

I vote 2 as well.

I agree with N30F15H about the block of dots at top of each page. May be style in your eyes but is a waste of space in mine. I have a big monitor and I still have to scroll up and down because of the way you have spaced out everything.

Boo!

It's a big page. It could really use some sort of index in tree format.

Thanks everyone, your feedback is greatly appreciated. If anyone else has any ideas/votes. please feel free!

the_winch:

Cheers, wasn't aware that was such an issue !. Thanks for posting the screenie

Rich:

Yeah i'm using firefox too. Kohai's aware of the issues and will hopefully sort them out soon. Although, He's talked about a second generation site, fully in CSS. But that doesn't help us in the short term.

I've never been a big fan of 'dot box' part either. My understanding was that It was meant to hold spacing for the banner/flash animations, but that has yet to eventuate.

lol, I remember you said that when it was first released and I said the same thing - that was back on RGT? Wow time flies

2 here as well - get rid of the dot box, and as rich says just make everything a bit more conforming (same text size etc).

You see that text under my name? It says moderator. It means I never make mistakes, unless they were deliberate.

I give it a 1

Your site was the inspiration, and basic model that I used to show my friend Giles, the designer of my site, what I wanted in the way of design

It's very clean, the colours are all neutral around the text area's, making it easy to read, and the header colours are nice and bold to make them stand out

The header graphic and gooter graphic are nice and constant, and blend well with the rest of the page, and give it a professional edge over most other websites without such graphics.

Aside from the obvious text, and alignment issues, your site ranks in the top few of the best sites I have seen around lately

Jess.

JessTicular:

Well thanks, I certainly can't any credit for this version of the site. It's exclusively been Kohai's baby.

All:

We've done a little tweaking on the site today/tonight (well at the moment) so feel free to take another gander..

It's a little simpler and to the point (in places ).

Haha, ok, Good work Koshai

The tweaks are good
Allignment is fixed and text looks better without it being too massive ( in FireFox )

Jess.
