Right now i'm not entirely sure whats going on here i'm trying to make something like a compass in 3d space i got it all set up where i want it to be BUT when i sue the "LOCK OBJECT ON 1" command my object just doesn't appear!! any idea why? if i take the line out it appears where it's supposed to be, i so confused....

lock object on sets teh object onto teh screen at a certain point. the reason you cant see it is cause it is lockign it on at 0,0,0. You have to set where on teh screen you want the object to appear, i cant remember the command but i think after lock object its just position object, be careful though because the screen only has about 3 maximum on the x and y axis, and teh 2 axis must be greater than 0 otherwise you wont see your object (its not in teh drawable view.) give that a try and see how you go
