wednesday night i went to bed, and as soon as my head hit the pillow, i started having ideas for a SNAKE-like game...i haven't been following the competition, becuase i've been working on my main program, but my brain just wouldn't shut up. i had to get out of bed, and program until morning.

what i have come up with is a CENTIPEDE who lives on an ASTEROID, and goes around eating mushrooms. he gets bigger and faster the more he eats. sounds familiar, right?

well, there are also some environmental hazards, like rock spires and acid pools, the walls of the crater, and 8 different types of mushrooms, each with different effects on the centipede.
so far there are 6 levels, with different obstacles and goals.

i should have a demo by monday, as i have to get off the computer and work all freakin' weekend...

i can't get my screenshots to display here, so you'll have to follow the link. sorry.

the download on that site is NOT this game,
it is my 4x space strategy game, ASTRUM ERUS: STARLORD

yeah, I'll second the centipede. Biggest downfall: your map has some serous lighting issues, but other than that, looks good!. I really like how you sky looks from those shots.

Current Projects: Verious things right now. Lots of utils for game making. Hopefully something solid soon.

thanks guys.

@batvink:

i haven't really experimented with LIGHTING in any of my projects,
and i don't seem to have a natural feel for it...
what would you suggest, or what would you say are those
"issues" ?

thanks,
bob

I'll second the cool critter comment. Looks like I have a challenger in the 3D snake clone category.

i hope you have some competition...

i'm really working hard on this, as my main project is
awaiting graphics and playability testing (for which i
will thank you).

breaking news!

i'm putting up a demo of this game,
with most of the media stripped out
(including sound and music...so turn on the stereo)

i'm looking for some people to test it out,
and see if it's
too fast / too slow / too hard / too easy...

i've been playing it the whole time, so my skill is pretty high,
but i can beat all 15 levels. can you?

http://free.hostdepartment.com/i/ibolrecords/Download1.html

you have to right click on the little "drive-with-arrow" icon
on the download page...

thanks,
bob

peter_,
didn't you used to have an 'x' or something after your underscore?

thanks for playing...yeah, you start the game with 2 lives...
there's a little icon upper right of a centipede with a number under it...that's lives left. next to that is mushrooms left on this level.
if you eat immunity, there's a round purple shrinking timer.
if you eat poison, there's a red shrinking timer.

i'm glad it's smooth on your machine.
i'm one of those guys whose computer doesn't really measure up,
and must develop with that in mind...
they tell me it's my graphics card...

thanks,
bob

Good stuff, it ran smoothly even on the craptasic integrated video of the machine I have here. The rotating controls are a nice challenge and the spinning background can leave you dizzy as you zig and zag for mushrooms.

I suggest working on a start page so you can score more points on presentation.

yeah, man, thanks.

that's the thing that i'm having the hardest time with...
i spent most of a day going thru all my ideas,
and finding them inadequate...

it will happen,
thanks,

yeah i had an "h" then an "x" and now nothing

anyhoo if your really having that much coding a menu/startscreen i could code it for you(done a few before.... ) if you provide teh images i could code it in a subroutine for you...

(better late reply than never),

thanks for the offer, but i actually worked out something
and got it working the next day, but then ran into some
sound/music problems, which APPEAR to be ok now...

the game is now complete and ready for the competition.
i just need to figure out how to send it in...
thanks,
bob
