Just stay calm and show that you can play with a team, if you're tryout involves a scrimmage, don't be a show off or ball hog, try to make lots of passes and try to help the team by not trying to score all the goals by yourself, I guess that's all I could suggest.

De nada.
Also if they ask for some neat tricks, try doing a rainbow. It impresses all.

Haha... fancy dribbling and dekeing is my speciality. I'm a great playmaker and I have a pretty good vision of the field. I'm not a striker or a goal scorer.. I get a LOT of assists tho. I'm good as a midfielder.

I'm a great center of mildfield and I tend to get the ball at "all costs necessary", if you know what I mean

if your team slows you down in the scrimmage, screw and take off with the ball and score as many times as you can alone. worked for me. I play whatever position I tell the coach I'm going to play.

I meant screw them. but you can only get away with that if you're good enough to score solo. good luck.

dont psyche yourself out. be calm and just do what youve practiced. I use this concept to stay calm when I used to play in a band and we were playing on stage in a club/bar.

Sounds.... odd

If you're talking ablout the thing we know as football, then all I an suggest is don't try and break forward too often. Get some good passes strung together. A few stepovers (see: Cristiano Ronaldo) might impress. A few long range shot on goal (see: Wayne Rooney) might also better your chances.

Good luck.

ps- what's scrimmage?

Ok... tryouts were today, but actually there's one tomorrow and day after. WEll we basically scrimmaged the whole time... I played pretty well, I scored once and got like 2 assists. But see I'm really small (in size), and there were a lot of these huge sophmore dudes who were... huge. So i dunno, tomorrow I have to be more aggressive, shove them around more, and I think I'll be fine.

Depends on what you play, heres some tips

Striker:
WIN BALLS IN THE AIR!! Dont let them drop! That will only let the other team get the ball. When you dont have the ball -ALWAYS- be moving to open spaces. Dont forget - COMPLETE YOUR RUNS! If your running to backpost, dont give up halfway, run all the way there and loop back, you never where the right place will be. When your team has the ball up, KEEP PREASURE ON! Make the other team try to clear it BEFORE they have to - makes bad passes.

Halfback:
If your wide -KEEP WIDE- Make sure not to play boot ball, keep the ball with you. Look for give and goes with forwards. Look to dribble down the side then GO TOWARDS GOAL! Once you get in the 18, start lookin to put it on net! Make sure you get back for defense though!

Center Mid: Contain the center of the field, keep the other team outa there. Get the ball outside to your midis and up to your forward. You wanna be creating scoring opps.

Stopper:
Make sure to STICK your opponent. Keep him there, make him to left or right. Dont keep backing up collapsing on your defense and sweeper and goalie. Contain the other team, make them pass so the rest of your defense can steal the ball and get it to your mids.

Fullbacks:
The 18 is your home. Keep it out of there. Any ball in the 18, look to clear it IMMEDIATLY. -DO NOT- Clear it to the center! Dont slidetackle, Penalty = PK!

Sweeper:
Last line of defense! Make sure to get any balls coming your way out of there, produce a throw, even a corner is better then a goal! Stick your opponenet, DONT BACK INTO THE GOALIE!! Let the goalie have room to work and see! You have to tell your teammates who you want guarding who!

Remember - Always talk! Tell your teammates what their situation is. Tell them where their passes are - if your going backpost, TELL THEM!! If your behind them, tell them 'Got me back' or 'Got me Square' Always yell MAN ON!! During throwins, tilting your head back a few times is the global signal for 'flick on' where you skip the ball backwards off the top of your head. Always be looking for this!

Make sure you nail the fundamentals. Hustle, dont ever walk. Pass with the inside of your foot, dont toe the ball. Make sure your throws are legal (an illegal throw can KILL your momentum)

Play the game. Dont act like a robot, just get out there and do it! Make sure your thinking though, play smart, and just have fun and youll do fine! You ALWAYS do best when your HAVING FUN.

Go get em

We call it Soccer as well, but that's mainly because we call Footie/Football our AFL, Australian Rules Football, which is a game that only exists here. Then we have Rugby (Union and League), which can also be referred to as Football, and finally we have Gaelic Football, which is only really played a couple times a year against Ireland.

RPGamer, the air, is a NO GO.
tisk... tisk, I'm a smaller player to but I end up taking out all the giant player who have the ball.
Try to let the ball get to your feet playing in the air.. it's... it's the americanized soccer imitation, the ground is your ally.
Use the air only when it's necessary.

I've heard of those - but never heard of a Stopper or a Half Back.

(Actually, looking at it now I have heard of quite a few RPG mentioned - on a smaller resolution everything appears so much more voluminous)

There are the position I know of:

Goalkeeper

Left Back
Centre Defence / Full back
Right Back

Anchor

Def. Mid
Left Mid
Centre Mid
Away Mid
Right Mid

Centre Forward
Striker

I've probably missed some somewhere, though.

That's Gaelic (the last one I mentioned), it's called International Rules and it's sort of a mix between AFL and Soccer, we actually played our first game (of two) just yesterday against Ireland. I love it, I always go to the MCG matches when it's held in Australia.
