eniac had 18000 valves before they invented transistors, and he used to take 2 weeks to performe a simple 3+3 operation, the cause of this time was that form 5 to 5 minuts a valve burned, and they had to find it in the 18000 and replace it !!

thank god to he guy that inveted transistors !

Lol TKF15H.

C'mon guys remember from your computer courses in jr high. Transistors either allow, or don't allow current to flow along circuits using chemical reactions (I think that's how it works). That's where you get binary, 1 and 0 (flow, no flow).

We should also thank and respect Von Neuman.

We should all love that caveman named Jub-Jub for not bashing Ko-Ko's skull in, because Jub-Jub ended up fathering all of northern Europe and concordently the majority of all Western civilization.

i didnt think it was no current, thought it was something like below 0.5 = zero and above = 1and then onto logic gates!

actually that varies from one transistor to another. And it doesn't deal with ON (1, flow) and OFF (0, no flow), but with a sigmoidal output value.

@Gir

Its almost what you said, regarding current, except current is measured in amperes. You must be talking about valtage

The 3d chat is coming...
In the meantime, come in the IRC. Ask me for details!!.

lol

Not many people realise where the term DEBUGGING comes from, and why errors are called BUGS. Real bugs actually used to get into the valves(non-vacuum ones) and circuits and they would have to debug, and literally remove the bugs from the computer. Ah, those were the days, long before I was born...

I would also like to thank robx for being such a cool pirate

The funny thing is, after decades and decades, we might be back to old fashioned debugging with insect spray before too long . We're building a MEMS plant at work, MEMS stands for Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems - and they're used right now for things like pressure sensors and system shut-off hardware, for example right now it probably takes a second or so for the power to leave a PC - that includes the processor. If you used MEMS technology, you could shut off power to a particular chip almost instantly - this would be for applications in power stations and nuclear plants.

The thing is - it could well be bacteria or microscopic organisms that cause the problems soon, imagine a tiny flea getting it's leg caught under a pressure sensor - then having to go looking for said flea .
