Hi,
I have a computer with Windows 2000 Advanced Server on it and supposively I am able to do webs on it. I have been screwing around with it and have been able to make a website to be viewed locally.
http://localhost
htpp://192.168.2.6

I can not figure out how to view it over the internet though. My internet IP is 67.181.56.76
http://67.181.56.76 wont work.

I have been told to download apache to use instead but I have only been able to get webs to be viewed locally on it also.

What am I doing wrong to not be able to view them over the internet. I use comcast internet and the only firewall I have going is the one from the router I got from comcast. Koshi from the darkbasic forums also has comcast and he can get apache to work perfectly fine.

I would highly prefer to use my windows 2000 adv server instead of apache but at this point anything will do.

Can someone please leave me extensive, in depth, detailed instructions on how I can get my website on the internet from my computer.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Nicolas Raboy

I am not entirely sure on the port I have to use.

Most people have been telling me to use port 80 so I have been. Still no success.

Please more advice appreciated.

You need to set the router to forward everything on port 80 to your computer.

the default IDE sucks

How is this server connected to the internet?
Through a router or is it using NAT or ICS?

A small paint diagram would help =)

use 192.168.1.1 or such to access your router, depends on the brand,
go to port forwarding and just add a discription and set the port
your might also have to use another web port other then port 80 cause some isp's block web hosting on the 80 port use 84 or 85 if this is the case typeing your ip http://67.181.56.76 won't work cause your not using the port type http://67.181.56.76:80 (or whatever the port is) to access the server. Web abyss is another good free server like apache.

Really appreciate the help guys.

IV E IVI E S I S:
The server which has Windows 2000 Adv Server connects to the internet through a router. The router I use is called a Microsoft Base Station. It is a wireless router and regular router combined.

Zone Chicken:
Where do I go to change the router IP? How do I do port forwarding? How do I set the port? How do I add a discription. I am pretty sure that comcast supports port 80 since Koshi is using comcast and uses port 80. I will try to change the port if I know how. What is the link to the Web Abyss website?

All your guys help is greatly appreciated. It has not yet helped me because I have failed to give you guys all the info you need, but at this rate your guys help should get this to work out in no time.

Please keep assisting me
Thanks,

Nicolas R.

There's a few things you need to do. Log into the router from the computer by entering the local IP of your machine. (the address to access the router could be different depending on the type of router. I use SMC) Navigate through the settings until you find something about virtual servers. Mine is located under the NAT properties. That is where you tell the router to send incoming connections. So point incoming connections on port 80 (21 for ftp) to the local IP of your server on the network. Now, you still need something running in Windows to know what to do with that connection. I don't know anything about using Apache, but I use IIS (Internet Information Services) which you can install with your Windows disc. It'll install it under Administrative Tools. Right-click on the "Default Web Site" node in the navigation tree on the left. This is where you set up the IP and port settings (if it wasn't done automatically) Click on the play icon to start the service. The view on the right of the application shows all the files and folders for the website on your machine. What to do with those should be pretty self explanatory.
