Right, at the risk of sounding severely noobish, I'd like to know if anyone knows of a way that you could use Maya PLE to export to a DBP-compatible format.

i don't think it's possible.
but you could try to find a .x exporter plugin.

you might as well use wings3d or milkshape or anim8or or truespace which you can find a link to a free version of somewhere on this site. i saw it and downloaded it but don't remember where.

Or you could just go to http://www.milkshape3d.com It's a 30 day trial only though. The program costs a measly 25$.
