Oh my god, this program is sick! Anyone struggling with 3D modelling and texturing should give this program a try! Paint Head Demo.bat file and see some sick fast modelling!

If you can sketch or draw then you can model in this program! No modelling experience required! I find this program very exciting.

http://www.curvy3d.com

This 3D object was painted! Not modelled! It is 3D!!! (could I possibly exclaim anymore?)

I'd also like to note that while the 3D object above is high-poly, you can draw a low-poly mesh over your high-poly mesh. The low-poly mesh automatically snaps to the surface of the high-poly base so it is easy to remake the form in low-poly without having to move a lot of points in 3D.

I thought I'd mention that just to get a jump on the most obvious questions that may have been asked after seeing that image.

w00tliness!
The $80-90 price tag is the only drawback I see (aside from animation, but that could still be in there, just not mentioned), but then again, some people are willing to pay $300 for 3ds Max...just not me

Good job Tapewormz, I'm sure anyone with the money will definitely enjoy this.

Looks very cool.. I think the only problem is that most people can't draw that well either But it does look fun for sure.

I just can't get the hang of that. It's certainly not conventional drawing

I think everyone draws better than they model.

Anyway, I'll try it, but Truespace will probably be greater than it.

Yup, this just builds weird Lathe objects, but well though.

And, can I see someone here's model, and the time taken to make it?

Well, I can draw well...It's modelling that takes me some time. This program cuts my design time more than half. The realtime heightmap sketchpad is what makes this program neat.

As for the pricetag, 80$ isn't much when you pit it against Gamespace, 3D Stuido, or lightwave.

You can try the public beta of the Pro version of the software. I can not afford to purchase the pro version. The current pricetag is 800$.

It took me a few try's to get aquainted with the program. It gets easier, and the forums are full of developers and beta testers really, willing and eager to give you advise, and tutorials.

I'm trying the demo, and at first glance it's pretty confusing. All I can make so far are a bunch of demented spline looking inside out shapes.

I'm really digging this software. Just got into the Curvy 3D Pro public beta test and got a hang of it quite easily.

I would watch the quickstart script recording, then read the quickstart tutorial, fellas. Their forums also have a bunch of tutorials on it. Best thing about this software is that once you modelled it, it would be pretty high poly. But you can basically draw lines over the Curvy model and create a low poly mesh right there, and auto generate a bump map on the Curvy model, edit it a bit, and there you have it: a low poly game model with a bump map that makes it quite detailed

I believe its a new technique most games today are using, most notably Halo/2.

So let me get this straight, you paint a picture, and then it creates a 3D model of it? If you paint the picture with a texture, will the model also be textured? If so this looks really freakin cool, as I can draw pretty well.

Curvy3D is a pretty neat tool. Tried it out for the first time a few minutes ago, and it's great! Just need to get the hang of the modeling style a little, but it's definitly a great way to pump out high poly models.

You can make them lower poly in the app. Quality still stays pretty good. I'd say this is a winner, and I might play around with the demo a bit more.

This is definatly the wave of the future, in terms of 3D modeling, soon people will be able to draw a front, back, right, and left views of an object, and simply scan it into a modeling program, which turnes it into a model. Awsome stuff.

By the way, I heard that this also allows you to paint colors, and textures onto the model, is this true?

Yes.

And the future of modeling will be when you take a couple pictures of something, load them into something, click somewhere, and you have a model, if it's as easy as it sounds. It costs $2000 though, but will decrese if more people used it.

Yeah, apparently. I'm not old and I still don't get it.

*Back on topic* Well, the only thing I don't like about Curvy so far is the fiddly lines thing. For example, when I draw a line from the top panel, it ought to be a flat line, but instead it sqiggles all over the Y axis. Instead I have to draw a flat line in the front or side panels and detail it in the top panel. It's very annoying.

it's got 2 different links to the downloadable demo.
