Ok I've spent a good amount of time learning DBPro and now I decided it was a good time to learn 3D. Sorry for posting a topic thats pretty redundant around here but what I'd like to know is what is the easiest modeler to learn on. No other features really matter besides compatability with DB/Pro and ease of use thanks to all who don't flame.

The problem with anim8or is with the animations. Isn't the correct program to import 3D animations to DBC/DBPro.

Ok thanks a ton for the link Game Spacer!

So the only thing that doesn't work with anim8or is the animations. Yay!

Lots of caffine for you! *starts running in circles cause of to much coffee*

Thanks alot to both of you.

Look in the sticky modeller thread for a lot of good suggestions with their pros and cons.

Thanks for the suggestion Zircher, but I already did that. The problem I had with it was that most of it was people asking stuff about how powerful they were or witch ones were cheapest. Ill check it again though. Thanks.

Depends on what you're looking for. Do you want a animation package or are you looking for a leveleditor or... you tell us!

I can say that Caligari Gamespace is NOT the easiest to learn on, but compatibility with DBPro has been excellent. Problem areas for ease-of-use are the cryptic interface (graphical, hundreds of icons) and documentation that uses only words, no pictures. IMHO, one good book with lots of screen snapshots could overcome this.

On the plus side, anything I've managed to create and save with GameSpace has been loadable in DarkBasic Pro without problems, including textures, animations, etc.

I've also tried Milkshape, Anim8r, and Poser. Milkshape struck me as a mini-Gamespace as far as functions, but had much better documentation and support on the web as far as tutorials (sad, as Milkshape is $20 and Gamespace is $300). Anim8r is fantastic for creating animations but they're pretty useless outside of Anim8r. The file format is unique (but well documented). I just don't know that anybody has created a good exporter for .X. As for Poser, I've never seen an easier way to create animated figures, but you can't use anything created with their template models in your own games.

My two cents' worth (2.5 cents, adjusted for inflation)

I use gmax and Milkshape, found both to be pretty useful....

gamx cause it's free and helped me learn how to model, then I spent the $25.00 for Milkshape which allows me to animate my models and export to .x format for dbpro....

(my 2.5 cents as well)

and i do suggest you read the modelers topic most of the listings there have prices in the review

3D max will take quite some time to master it, but you can learn the basic in couple of weeks. I tried many other software, but this software let's is probably the best one. Since many professional use this software, don't expect this to be a simple to use software.
